We stayed at this Howard Johnson on our way to Hilton Head, SC for a wedding. Not knowing how far we'd get on our first night, we didn't reserve a room ahead of time, but had researched some possible places to stay in advance. We were able to make it the area where this Howard Johnson was located, so we figured we'd give it a try based on the consistently good reviews.
They put us in a Home Office room on the second floor. It was right down the hall from the noisy ice machine, but surprisingly we could not hear it in the room. This home office room was very spacious with a high ceiling and had a loveseat (with pull out bed), coffee table, microwave, refrigerator, iron and ironing board, hairdryer, desk, etc. The room had a sliding door which led to a little patio area with chair. We could see in the distance that the hotel had a pool. The room was fairly clean and well maintained. The towels were thin and the sheets on the older mattress had a few small holes in them, but nothing to complain about for the price! The inside of microwave and fridge were clean. They had wired and wireless internet which was easy to connect to, fast and worked well. We enjoyed a good night of sleep and had plenty of hot water for our shower in the morning. There was a sink in the bathroom and also a sink outside of the bathroom which we found very convenient for getting ready in the morning. Before heading out we went down to the continental breakfast which consisted of several cereals, milk, juices, coffee, danishes, muffins, and bagels.
On the way back from Hilton Head we drove in hours of heavy rain and realized that reaching our destination was going to take much longer than originally anticipated, so we ended up pulling off in Battleboro and staying at this Howard Johnson again. Since it was a weekend, they were a little busier, but we ended up happening to get the same room again. This time we had an issue with our sheets - they had something on them. I took a picture and brought it down to the front desk. The worker said they all they could do is give me a new set of sheets to put on. So we changed the sheets and then brought the previous ones back down. Apparently someone had gotten a rubber band in the washer, though at first look they looked like tape worms or something!! Besides this, our second stay here was uneventful. I did notice that the shower could have been a little cleaner and that the drop ceiling in the bathroom has been painted numerous times. But again, for $50-60 I thought this hotel was a great value. You could tell that they work hard to keep the place well maintained and their customers happy. I would recommend this hotel to anyone in a heartbeat.
