“WORTH IT !! A MUST on your TRIP !!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2007

A step back in time. I believe the largest estate in Ireland. We spent one night and it has been one of the highlights of our entire 2 weeks in Ireland. Roderick is a wonderful host, he greets you at the MONSTER size front doors and takes you up the grand staircase past the LARGE MUSEUM size oils to your room, and explains what time we all meet for drinks before gathering around a large dining table for dinner. The FOOD was excellent, and the conversation with the other guests very lively and interesting. My husband and I met couples from London, Canada, France and Australia ! The history of the home is fascinating, the home has been in the same family for about 800 years. In fact it is mentioned in a current article in CONDE NAST TRAVEL magazine- Sept 07 issue. Be sure and walk the grounds. If you arrive early enough you can take a boat out, or walk past what used to be the stable house. There are parts of the home that appear to still be undergoing renovation and it would be good to see that continue. Modern bathrooms, excellent food and you truly feel like you have stepped back in time. Worth the price.

Temple House Estate is what you dream about when you think of Ireland. From the time we drove through the front gates, we were taken back in time. The huge horse chestnut trees greeted us as we drove by, then when we made a turn and saw the house for the first time, we were in awe. The main house is a huge old mansion that is spectacular on its own. The rooms there are beautiful and the dinners terrific.

We stayed in the Gardener's Cottage on the estate about a half mile from the main house. It is a self-catering cottage that was a delight to stay in for a week. The sheep in the meadow adjoining the cottage yard greeted us every morning. The peace and quiet and beauty of the area was soothing to the soul.

There were five of us traveling together from ages 10 to 83. The house worked out great for us all. There are two new bathrooms, both with high pressure showers that were wonderful. The sunny kitchen had everything we needed for the week, including a washer/dryer! (that took us Yanks a while to figure out, but it was so nice to have) There is satellite TV and a DVD player, which kept the kids busy when we weren't outside walking around the huge estate, or on the beautiful lake.

Do yourself a favor and stay at Temple House. You'll be glad you did!

We spent just over 2 weeks traveling around Ireland with the Temple House booked as one of our last stops. We actually stayed in the The Lodge, a 2 bedroom cottage located on the grounds near the entry gate to the estate. It was wonderful! It was spacious, comfortable and the kitchen was modern and well equipped. It offered the tranquility we needed after being on the move for the better part of two weeks. The grounds are lovely and the boat ride around the lake was a treat, especially with Sally (the Estate’s Springer Spaniel) at the bow of the boat. Roderick, our gracious host, even took the time to give us a tour of the Estate’s B&B - it's amazing and more grand than you can probably imagine. This was by far our most memorable stop. We miss Sally!

The second week of May, 2007, we were thrilled to be able to stay for two nights at Temple House in Ballymote, Sligo, Ireland. This is just a fantastic place. You really feel like you are a part of the house, one of the guests invited out to the country for the weekend. Roderick is brilliant,,,,great host. The guests are so much fun to meet and to talk with, you could not ask for a better environment to relax and enjoy life. Will definitely return and would highly recommend Temple House.

We had a lovely one night stay in Temple House in May 2007, the owner
was friendly, our room was perfect and the house and grounds are just
stunning. We went for a row on the lake in the morning, what more could you ask for! We are definitely going back, it was a great experience.

We stayed at Temple House because of the positive reviews and we were not disappointed. Upon arrival, Roderick appeared a little surprised to see us. Thankfully, I traveled with my booking confirmation. He showed us to the Half-Acre bedroom and what a treat. I think the room was larger than my first apartment. We took a walk of the grounds before dinner accompanied by the family's dogs (they think that they run the place not the Percevals : ). Before dinner, we met the other guests staying at Temple House and selected our wine for dinner. Then we were were treated to a delightful dinner of spinach souffle, monk fish and a lemon tart. FABULOUS! We only stayed one night and it was a shame because Temple House has so much to offer. I would stay there again, but for many people it would be a budget buster. If you're planning on having one stay that will be a splurge, Temple House is the place.
