“Perfect Weekend Getaway”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2012

My husband and I just returned from Archer's Mountain Inn. We went away to celebrate our 27th wedding anniversary. When we arrived, we were escorted to our room, the Appalachian. The view from our room was spectacular. We were lucky enough to have gotten a great deal which included a bottle of bubbly(perfect for an anniversary), a basket of fruit and a $30 coupon for Jackalope's View Restaurant. We arrived around 4 PM, enjoyed a drink and some rocking on the shared deck and then a great meal at Jackalope's. My husband had the cowboy ribeye and I had the seared scallops, both were excellent. Our service was not up to par, but because the server recognized that the kitchen was backed up, he brought us both a round of drinks on the house. Not bad!!! There is a pub above the restaurant, but I would not recommend that for a complete meal. There is very little seating, but the view was amazing. We will be going back. Book early, because they fill up quickly. Be flexible and go during the week!!!

Anticipating a romantic summer getaway, and this place could easily get a better rating with some minor, unexpsensive fixes. It was hot, we noticed some rooms had a/c, but ours only had one fan. We had the most expensive room, the roof garen with the hot tub on the deck. There was no screen in the window, which we didn't notice until the next morning, which is also when the animal droppings were noticed around the hot tub outside the window. The remote did not work for the tv, very inconvenient. We asked for a working one and told us they did not have anymore, couldn't get anymore, didn't offer to solve the problem. So we drove to the local Lowes Home Improvement store and spent $8 for a universal remote, so we could have that small convenience the second night.

Other small details include; the blinds in the bathroom window were so old, dirty, and see through it did not allow for privacy; crack in shower needed to be caulked; mirror had large crack in it; towels did not smell freshly laundered, stored from end of last season; carpet needed to be cleaned so as not to hold odors; there are no security locks on the doors, only a bedroom type door lock which could be easily broken through while away or in on during visit; there were some cobwebs in corners; more than one trash can would have been nice since there were two rooms; there was only 1 coffee cup; we had to ask for a broom to sweep up the droppings around the hot tub.

Other useful info before checking in, is the ice is located in the restaurant, what if the restaurant is closed when you want ice? We asked for a delivery service number, and it was closed on Sunday and we were given the incorrect number, this is knowledge the staff should have. No phones in the rooms, and nothing to keep champange cold, we had to get ice from restaurant (two trips) to ice the champagne in the sink.

We were not able to enjoy the stay as well as we could have. We did not even go in the hot tub based on the condition on the room and deck. Maybe a sign that is initialed and dated for the last maintenance or service would be in order for assurance that the hot tub is clean and working. Bottom line, when you travel you want to be as comfortable as you are at home, small fixes would make this place a great getaway.

On a positive note, the restaurant food was excellent, fine dining, white table, although we were joined by fles, spiders and mosquitos, the windows were open and there no screens.

We are glad you take advantage of our hiking getaway package, we would like to not e, however, that this is not a groupon promotion. We do regret that you did not enjoy your stay. We always welcome feedback. We are currently addressing some of your issues and look forward to your return.

Found this place online. It was much nicer than the way the website describes it. I was expecting something grungy and full of backpackers in search of themselves. Instead, I was surrounded by a wonderful group of families and couples who already had. All the guests were friendly and plenty of nice talk back and forth between cabins.

The hosts are welcoming and helpful. Not in your face. They leave you alone until you need help with something. Follow their directions on the website. Your GPS will not get you here.

A few minor complaints: The coffee pot in my room did not work, and seemed like it had been this way for a while. Only one small trash can under the bathroom sink.

Room Tip: I stayed in the Grandmother room. Take nothing from the title. It's a nice room, suitable for ei...

Great hideaway for an intimate weekend...or weekday! Located mountainside, quiet neighborhood, cozy bedrooms. The on-premise restaurant has surprisingly good food. The Groupon included a $30.00 meal which is perfect for those vacationing on a modest budget. Must do: White Water Rafting down the Nolichucky River!

Just getting home from an awesome visit in the Carolina mountains and the Archer Inn! The views were absolutely breathtaking--we stayed in the Beech room. Being summer the fireplace wasn't very relevant, but cannot imagine how cozy it would be in the winter! The room was very charming, and for a city gal seeking that rustic mountain 'feel,' it hit the spot. There were windows spanning the wall, looking out to the mountains, and a very spacious deck with colorful rockers to sip coffee or a big glass of red. The staff was very cheerful and accomodating--the owner even helped us out with cleaning my nieces baby bottle. We will all definitely be returning in the Fall!

Room Tip: We stayed in the Beech room, which was on the second level--had panoramic views of the mountain!

You wake up in the morning and look out over forever. The views of the valley surrounded by high mountains as far as you can see. The rooms are large but cozy. you get a real log cabin feel while staying there. The room had a small TV with Cable, but if you are there to watch TV, and not sit on the porch and watch the scenery, you are in the wrong place. WiFi is offered, but you probably need to be in the main building to use it. (Only tried once) The restaurant and bar were wonderful. Good selections, great food, and a friendly staff. If you are looking for spotless and modern, this is not the place for you, but if you like to have fun, in a beautiful setting, give them a try, you will not be disappointed.

Was there for a livingsocial deal for two night stay, did not get the strawberries, but did get apples, oranges, and nature valley granola bars instead.

Originally booked the Hawk's View Lodge but turns out we were double booked. Got upgraded to the Hunt cabin which was clearly meant for a group with several room requirements (3 bedrooms, 3 baths, a pool table, and full kitchen) so no complaints on roominess. Still was a tad creepy because we were two people in a humongous cabin.

Food at the Jackalopes was not world-class but good given the location. The service was excellent. Wi-Fi only works in the main lodge area, the cabin did not have any.

Spent one of the days just exploring and the other on Grandfather Mountain (short drive away).
