“Home away from Home Atmosphere - Ha!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2007

This was by far the worse hotel I have ever stayed in. Although they boast a home away from home atmosphere with quality service and hospitality - they certainly don't meet those expectations.

I was travelling with two people with disabilities and they put us in a basement level - in case of an emergency and non-use of the antiquated elevator these people would have been trapped due to their inability to walk up the stairs. The front desk personnell couldn't care less - and certainly weren't attuned to providing satisfactation to the guests. Our reservations were booked 4 months in advance of our anticipated travel to Yonkers.

Our non-smoking rooms reeked of smoke and their response was - "We tell people not to smoke but they don't listen." and handed a spray can to use - which doesn't do a thing for a smoke infested room.

Our issue with inaccessablity for people with mobility issues and the fact our non-smoking rooms reeked of smoke met with no satisifatory results - were just told that there were no other rooms available - the hotel was booked. No resolution, no customer service.

We were also placed near a room being renovated and had to endure banging, as well as visiting mice.

There was so much more that happened during our stay that there isn't enough room to explain. But if you are even thinking of staying at this hotel - my recommendation is to find other accommadations and run as far away from this hotel as possible!

My son and I stayed here for a visit to Sarah Lawrence College. We were allowed a bit of a discount by mentioning that we were visiting the school, so keep that in mind if you are visiting.

We got there later in the evening and were sort of confused by the signs as it is at the top of a hill, but it wasn't especially clear to me so we had to double back. The elevator is quite unique and is probably 50+ years old, so that sort of told us that the hotel hasn't been renovated for awhile. Our room was at the back of the property, facing a hillside, which was okay.

Biggest problem we had was with the shower draining....i.e. it didn't. This is obviously an older property which hasn't been renovated for awhile, and it shows. Even with the discount, it was a bit pricey for what you're getting. But if you're from the West Coast and have no idea where to stay to visit colleges, you are sort of stuck with what's close by.

One good thing is the restaurant attached to the property, an Italian restaurant with great food. They also do breakfast. Pretty good, if swimming in oil.

Trying to find a hotel in Yonkers, NY is not easy. Only two seem to come up on web searches: the Royal Regency and the Ramada Yonkers. We chose the Ramada since it was close to the site we were going for an event. We were happy we did! The Royal Regency is all torn up in front and is located just about on the Tuckahoe Road exit ramp of the NYS Thruway (tons of traffic!). The Ramada was just down Tuckahoe Road, but located away from the road on a hill surrounded by trees. It felt rather secluded from all the hustle and bustle. It was not perfect (narrow halls, some rust in the shower ceiling, rather inexperienced front desk personnel, no YES channel in the rooms), but it was clean and spacious. We ate breakfast in their restaurant and it was excellent, though the 2 servers really needed more help. All in all, it served our purposes. With an AAA discount, it cost $125. plus tax.

I recently stayed at this Ramada and was quite pleased. The room and bathroom were "immaculate" (plenty of towels). Comfortable beds and spacious seating (a room with two double beds that had a desk and chair along with two side armchairs). Located on top of a hill with upper level views scenic and lower level rooms abuting gorgeous indigenous rock forms. It is quiet and out of the way being that it is off the main road as well. Parking not always the best but still give it a high recommendation. Pool was large and kept clean with ample seating all around. Desk personnel were polite. I saw non-stop cleaning staff doing their very best...even mopping the stairs down. I would certainly stay again at this hotel.

Upon arrival at the Ramada, it was very clear that the pictures on the Internet flattered this hotel. We were told our room was not ready. We had requested an upper floor room with 2 double beds, non-smoking. After a half an hour we were directed to a "suite" that looked like something out of a 70s Brady Bunch episode. It was located on the lowest level right next to the hotel laundry area. The only access was via a dead end service road. We immediately called the hotel manager and were given a different room which reeked of stale smoke. The room was clean, spacious but rather dingy. The bed sheets were limp and the window curtain was ripped. There were also two houseflies to add to the ambience. The hotel has a very bizarre elevator which barely holds three people without luggage. The restaurant food was just okay - nothing special. The outdoor pool was large with nice landscaping and plenty of lounge chairs and tables, but the water was too cold for us. It's proximity to Yankee Stadium and reasonable rates so close to NYC lured us to the Ramada, but we will definitely seek other accommodations on future visits to the area. P.S. Kudos to the housekeeping staff - they were the hardest working people there and were very friendly and willing to please.

  • Liked — The Dunkin' Donuts across the street.
  • Disliked — An outdated and depressing hotel with a cheesy bar/lounge/restaurant.

We had two rooms on the lower floor that were directly below or very near an extremely loud live band. The sound level was so intense that we could actually feel the vibration in our beds.
This activity lasted until well after midnight. When we checked out the next morning, I complained to the young lady at the desk. Her response was, "Yes, we have a problem there", but there was not even a hint of apology. I cannot understand how a property could allow this type of activity that they know will detract from their guests comfort.

The staff was superb. We had a minor medical emergency, and they got us into a room early and called the cab for the hospital. When I left a drawer full of clothes (duh!), they sent every item back. The restaurant has a wide selection and is open for all three meals. The blueberry pancakes are very good. The rooms are not deluxe, but ours had been updated and was clean. The fitness center looks better on line than in reality, but that was the only real disappointment. We went to three weekend Yankee games and this was a more affordable option than center city stay. Drive your car to the first subway stop and take the elevated subway directly to the stadium. Easy, quick, safe. Easy access to the hotel from the Interstate. We will definitely do this again.
