“A Wee Bit of Fresh Eire in Yonkers”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2012

If you need a bit of fresh Eire, that is, a taste of the old country (the old sod of Ireland), look no further, Yonkers, for the Glen Rowan is here. For a few years now we have been going to the Glen Rowan (formerly known as Tara, the name which recalls Ireland's hill of kings). In fact, almost each time we return to visit my parents (who live a short drive away), we try to stop at Tara/Glen Rowan for a drink, some hors d'oeuvres, or a complete meal. We have never been anything short of very happy with our experiences there.

On a recent trip home, we arrived at the Glen Rowan on a Friday afternoon in perfect timing for happy hour to begin. The parking lot was short of space and a nice woman with a charming Irish accent helped us find a spot in the back. We later learned that she was one of the managers. That's just the type of hospitality you will find any time you visit. And, if you are looking for a good time with pleasant conversation (good craic) you will find it here too.

We have eaten all kinds of dishes at the Glen Rowan, everything from typical starters and appetizers to full meals of meats, chicken, or fish. They do a few typically Irish dishes well (fish and chips, shepherd's pie, stews, etc.) and they even do some typically American or Italian-American specials. For example, we had a tasty special of fettucine with chicken and spinach alfredo there once, so it's not all pub food at the Glen Rowan.

Even though it is a pub with lots of drinkers at the bar and at some of the tables, there is a section in the back reserved for dining. While it is not perfectly quiet or secluded, you can still enjoy your meal in relative comfort and tranquil surroundings.

If you are not looking for a dining spot but enjoy a typical Irish pub atmosphere, at the Glen Rowan, you will feel most at home. So drop in almost any time for a Guinness or a Jameson's, always served up with generous servings of good craic. Slainte!
