This place holds history from the time of slavery. Some of the history may never be told it is hard to capture all the truth.

“An historic gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

This is a beautiful house built in the 1600s. It is one of the oldest surviving houses in North America. It is up the street from the historic Yonkers train station and so is easily accessed. The house boasts an original papier-mache Rococo ceiling and original magenta Delft tile. If you are a history lover, it is not to be missed.

“A good introduction to the area's history”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2013

The Philipse family built this splendid building and lived in it for many years, and learning about them puts your history lessons into a good perspective. Their wealth started in England but was increased in great measure through what we nowadays call ill-gotten gains - the slave trade between Africa, the Caribbean and the American South. They also were loyal to the Crown during the Revolutionary War, as so many New Yorkers tended to be, and so left to return to the Old Country abandoning this fine structure. Unfortunately, the building (which is in the center of Yonkers, near the railroad station and the river) does not contain any period furniture and is basically a shell of its former self, but the gentleman who was showing the house while we visited did a good job of explaining the situation to us.

“A lot of History”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 31, 2013

Philipse Manor Hall is an old Dutch Mansion from the 1600's located on the Hudson River in downtown Yonkers. There is a lot of history here and there are tours. The City of Yonkers has done a great job in maintaining it's originality.
