“Peaceful Piece of Heaven in Woodstock!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2013

So I'll start by saying that I owe Megan this review since March of this year - so my most sincere apologies for the time it has taken!!

On very short notice, I decided to attend a personal workshop that was being held in Woodstock. Given the end time of the workshop, we needed to be able to spend the night (we live in NYC). The workshop contact had included Retreat at TreeGap as one of various places to stay nearby. I sent a note inquiring availability and Megan responded right away. We had done everything so last minute that I didn't know what to expect and had no time to do more than look at the Website.

What an incredibly great surprise to find such a wonderful, wonderful piece of heaven!! First, we didn't know that the property is pretty exclusive and only has two rooms for rent. Given we wanted privacy, knowing we were the only ones in the property was an unexpected but very welcomed surprise!
Second, the size of the room was three times what we would have expected! The bed is king size and very comfortable. There is a sitting area with a table/chairs for two which we used for breakfast in the mornings and to work in the afternoon. There is a TV with DVD player and even some movies/yoga DVDs. The room has windows on three sides allowing plenty of sunshine in. A large portion of one side of the room has a window ledge where you can sit/lay to read a book or just meditate as you look out to the peaceful surroundings. There are two wide chairs and a small table to enjoy a cocktail and/or share a conversation.
There is also a big closet, a small refrigerator and coffee maker. The bathroom is huge and comfortable. And last but not least, there is a private balcony overlooking the un-occupied side of the property with a rocking chair and a lounge chair.
We were lucky enough that the night we stayed, it snowed. The silence and peace I was able to find was like a very needed balm to my soul. I know I'm sounding a bit "dramatic" but we had gone through an emotional ordeal the prior year and very much needed this quiet space.

The access to Woodstock was just a short ride away. This facilitated the back and forth to enjoy the great restaurants, shopping and walking that the town has to offer.

We had such a wonderful first day that we asked Megan if we could extend our stay, and luckily for us, she was able to accommodate our request. On our day of departure, we had to head out at 5:00 a.m. and to our great surprise, Megan got up to clean the path to the car (it had snowed the night before) and to say goodbye!

Now let's talk about breakfast and Megan's cooking because that was another BIG plus!! Like other reviewers have mentioned, Megan provides you with a list of options for your breakfast which then is prepared to order and delivered warm to your door at the time of your request (whether that is very early or later in the morning). Our first day we received delicious omelets, fresh sweet grapefruits, a basket with scones and the best biscotti's we have ever tasted, an assortment of jelly, butter and nut butter, delicious papaya juice and toasted bread! It was not only delicious but beautifully presented! The second day, we were lucky enough that Megan surprised us with the MOST DELICIOUS chocolate donuts!! We later learned that this is also a passion of hers which we hope she does pursue as they were "finger-licking" GREAT!!

Needless to say, I wanted to stay the whole week and plan at some point to do so!!!
For anyone looking for some quiet and peaceful surroundings, a friendly but non-intrusive inn-keeper, spacious accommodations, and privacy, while still a short distance from the town activities, this is the place to stay!!

This place is just downright cool. No,it is not the typical B & B that we have become accustom to. Just outside of town (maybe a 5 minute ride). It is so peaceful and quite you may sleep right through your breakfast. Megan, makes a breakfast and delivers it to your door at 8:30. It may include an assortment of breads, granola, fruit, and a hot dish. In addition it is served with fresh yogurt, and farm fresh cream. If you are an early riser there are all the provisions you need for coffee, tea etc right in your room. We stayed in the Carriage House. It was clean, comfortable, and very roomy. Nice open feel with skylights and plenty of windows. Megan is a great host very lively, will engage you in conversation or leave you in peace. This was a great find and we can not wait to return. Thank you Megan.

My partner and I have been lucky enough to stay in the Coach House at TreeGap twice in the last year. We love this place! It feels like our own private cottage in the woods. The room is spacious, beautifully decorated and filled with beautiful cottage touches, great books, coffee maker, fridge, info about the area, even a deck of playing cards! Skylights and big windows let the breezes through and the light in. Megan makes the most delicious breakfast and leaves it outside your door in the morning. She is friendly, but not obtrusive - as another reviewer said, this is NOT your conventional B and B experience, where you must socialize with other guests. It is super private, restful and restorative. The location is perfect, near the Brydcliffe art colony and removed from the bustle of 'downtown' Woodstock, but close enough to get there in a jiffy (3 mins drive). The woods, the walks and the quiet are the best parts. If you are looking for a gorgeous, low key, delicious stay in the Catskills, TreeGap is the place!

Room Tip: We love the Coach House - separate from the house, maybe a little less fancy than the White Pines r...

THis is a truly spectacular location just outside Woodstock 'downtown'. Beautiful home and rooms - terrific fod and service. All in a location that is very peacful but only 2 minutes from all the intersting opportunities in the town and a short drive to hikes, skiing and all the Catskills have to offer. And Megan is great - a pretty wordly innkeeper who's also a local and knows everything in the area!

My wife and I hate B&B's, so we were slightly wary of staying here. But as someone else said, it's not like the typical B&B. Not decorated like a doll house. There are only two rooms, so there is no communal gathering at breakfast. And Megan is awesome. She leaves breakfast outside your door, and it is so good. She also has little touches in the room which are so nice: coffee maker/coffee, tea, books, and many other things I can't remember. We stayed in the White Pines Room, which I highly recommend. Very large, with your own private patio. The bed was so comfortable. There is a dog and a cat, both extremely friendly. We only heard the sound of wind at night. Would definitely go back. Rejuvenating, relaxing, just perfect.

Room Tip: White Pines - Great seating area by a large window. Have your own patio.

I loved my weekend stay here! We stayed in the King Size room with a private covered porch. It was sooooo nice. The size of the room is wonderful you just have sooo much space all in one room. This is my bedroom in my dream house! Loved the covered porch outside with table chairs and sofa. Also has a great window sitting area inside and even another private porch outside the bathroom with an outdoor shower in the woods! Wonderful! Loved watching the fog in the morning and all of the wildlife! My husband couldn't have made a better pick for our stay in the area! Only one minor downside, we couldn't get the speakers to work correctly on the radio (trival). Would love to visit again!

We stayed in the White Pines room at the Retreat at TreeGap and it was great! It feels like you are staying in a lodge. The room is very large and clean, with a separate dressing area and very large bathroom with tub/shower combo. The window seat that looks out onto the front of the property was my favorite. The large private deck on the side was perfect for eating al fresco. You can choose the time that you would like breakfast served, and it is brought to your room. Our first night there was no choice for breakfast, but it was great: warm sconces and bread, hardboiled eggs, jams, coffee, juice. The next two breakfasts were larger and we did have a choice: pancakes, poached eggs with kale, goat cheese and herb omelet, waffles, blueberry smoothies, juice, coffee. All delicious. Overall just a very relaxing, quiet place that's extremely close to the main part of town to go out and eat dinner, shop, etc. We'd definitely come back.

Room Tip: Stay in the White Pines room for a lodge-like feel, comfy sitting areas and peace and quiet.
