“Hidden treasure”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2013

Because most people head to the ADK region to get away from the hustle & bustle of life, this place is the perfect lodge. Very simple, gracious owners and comfortable accommodations. The nightly bonfires make you sit back & relax (unless you want to talk politics). The lodge is convenient to all Lake Placid activities yet away from the LP traffic congestion. It's only a few miles from Whiteface Ski area which would make it most desirable during ski season as many of the resorts are outrageously priced. Daily breakfast is just enough to get you through to lunch at one of the scenic restaurants in the area. The resident Bulldog will be sure to greet you with sloppy kisses if you so desire. Thanks AL & Alicia! We will be back. Mark, Jane, Barb & Reece

I stayed here one night in August as part of an Adirondack road trip. Al and Alicia were extremely friendly and welcoming. The rooms were better than I expected: very comfortable bed with memory foam, new carpet, everything clean and in good repair. Each night there is a group campfire in front of the building - this was really appreciated since I was traveling solo and it was a great way to meet the other guests. Lots of good things for breakfast. A great stay!

We stayed for 2 nights and enjoyed our stay. When we were there Al's wife was away on holidays so he was on his own, and he did his best to make us comfortable and make sure we had everything we needed. The room was nice, clean, quiet and comfortable with a great shower and rustic decor. There was a camp fire both nights we were there but after hiking all day we just didn't have the energy left to join in, but we didn't hear any noise or have any problems sleeping, they were very respectful. The location was great, close to town and just a couple minutes from White Face Mountain. Not the Ritz but a very nice, friendly place to stay. Make sure when you book you book directly with the Lodge, if you book with Hotels.com or Expedia they will charge you hidden surcharges that Al will not if you book direct.

Room Tip: Do not book through Hotels.com, they will charge a hidden surcharge, mislead you and tell you your v...

Just finished our second 4 night stay, both times for Ironman Lake Placid. Al and Alecia are just wonderful people who go way out of their way to try to make you feel at home. For anyone doing Ironman Lake Placid in the future, why you would stay anywhere else is beyond me. Will be back, for sure.

Al and Alicia, you are national treasures! Mountain Brook Lodge has an outstanding reputation (as 99% of Tripadvisor reviews attest) because of YOU! Our 6 days with you was way too short. My wife and I want to thank you most sincerely for your genuine care and personal regard, for going above-and-beyond to make our stay comfortable in every way. No wonder so many children and veterans and seniors (like us!) write you heart-felt letters of appreciation and send photos from all over the world. You 100% deserve it. We look forward to staying with you again!

What a welcome! Just like the motel visits I remember as a kid where the owner escorted you to your room and showed you around the place. A terrific value especially for US and Canadian military, veterans & 1st Responders! Al is a retired Marine First Sergeant and quite the character. He has a fire going every night and encourages his guests to hang out and enjoy the company of others!!! If you are a family with kids, pets and generally just enjoy a clean, safe affordable place that makes you more than feel welcome please stay here. In our short time here we met some great people to hang out with for a pause on our Adirondack adventure. From the early rising fishermen from VT to the speed skating parents from Michigan it was a pleasure for this Army family with 2 kids from everywhere! Although we declined, Al & Alicia give all returning service members their first night free and all others (above) a 10% discount. A Friday night in July was only $80.10

We rented a room last minute, the room was small but clean. When we came back from dinner there was a party around a fire in the front yard and the owner greeted us and was highly intoxicated. He wanted us to join the party and did not want to take no for an answer. He kept insisting and kept putting his arms around me. We finally got away from him and tried to sleep but the noise kept us awake and we were afraid to go back out. It appeared to be a scene from the Beverly Hillbillies. A guess the room was clean...
