“A Wonderful Stay in the Ledge Rock at Whiteface Motel. This is the place to stay!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2009

My wife and I took a day trip into the Adirondacks to scout for a quiet location for our annual vacation this year. We happened across the Ledge Rock along the way and stopped in to take a look. We were met by Dave and Jean in the office and given a tour. We were struck by the cleanliness of the rooms and the kindness of the owners who live in the hotel as well. We were sold.

We made reservations on the phone the following week, and had no issues getting great service. We were taking our 12 year old daughter with us and her happiness was our main concern. The room we received had been freshly remodeled and has a wonderful homey feel to it. The view is astonishing and has to be the best view of Whiteface mountain in the entire area. My daughter was not disappointed!

The rooms are spacious and clean, with a fridge, microwave, coffee maker, TV, High Speed Internet, lots of wall outlets, a very clean bathroom, and nice beds with homey quilts on them. They have a wonderful great room for an evening of family entertainment with a perfect view of the mountain, a pool table, a large flat screen TV with a DVD player and a VHS player and movies provided. There is a BYOB wet bar and glasses and looks to be the perfect place to host a larger gathering if you are traveling with friends. There is also a giant fireplace, board games and books in the great room as well for anyone interested in a night of family fun.

Dave and Jean have been outstanding, as well as the rest of the staff here. They have known all the perfect places to go in the area, offered discounts at eateries locally, and have been available to us for any and all questions we have had. Jean was so kind the other night she even offered to cook Pizza for us, since the closest pizza place was a few miles out of town. I was touched.

The pool is brand new, and very clean. Lots of room and lots of seating available. This is the Adirondacks, so be warned, the temps are cool even in the summer. If you want to swim, be aware that it will be cool. Even with the cool temps, it was divine to take a cool dip after a day of hiking around the mountain.

I took the opportunity to peek at some of the other rooms today, and found them to be equally wonderful! Everything has exceeded our expectations. I travel for a living, and feel that this is a fantastic deal. My wife is very happy, and my daughter, after only being here for part of our stay, has said "This is the best place we have ever stayed on vacation!". We are writing this review from the hotels very fast WIFI service and will be returning here again for future stays.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2009

My husband and I, together with a friend, have traveled to Lake Placid around the 3rd week of June for many, many years. Up until this trip, we have always stayed in the village of Lake Placid, at one of the local hotels that offer a golf package. We spend our time fishing on the Lake, as well as golfing on the local courses. This year we tried something a little different. We stayed a bit out of town [about 8 miles], at the Ledge Rock. We were a little nervous about whether it would be inconvenient for our purposes. We had no cause to be nervous. The setting was spectacular. and the drive into town for launching our boat, or heading to the golf courses. was very convenient. The proprietors gave us a hint of an easy way to get to the boat launch site without having to drive through the middle of the Village. In planning the visit, the proprietor Dave was very helpful in adding the golf option to our stay. We used their bbq grill to cook up a steak and the fixings that we brought. This is something we could not have done at any of the hotels in town. While there were picnic tables right there to use, the weather was a bit iffy, so we used one of the many tables in the Great Room. It gave us, again, the perfect view of Whiteface mountain, and a nice room, with pool table, and lighting to eat in, after our long day out and about. Dave and Jean were most helpful in steering us to restaurants to try, allowing us to "park our boat" when not in use, and freezing our caught fish in their freezer until we were ready to hit the road. We were very happy that we tried their location, and will not hesitate to do so again. The ride into town was very easy [and pretty, along the Ausable]. It was filled with fishermen fly fishing. The view of Whiteface right on our balcony was wonderful. See photo attached. It was quiet, yet very accomodating. I highly recommend this location for anyone who finds themselves visiting Lake Placid.

have stayed at alot of the hotels in placid
and wilmington and this by far meets
my needs and expectations.
i don't mind having to leave for a hot meal at a local
place, other wise i just whip up a room snack.
the owner dave is a wealth of knowledge
and has assisted myself and my travel friends
over the years with pointers on restaurants, attractions,
short cuts, etc.
if u want the 5 star holiday ,then stay at mirror lake inn
in placid, other wise if its a clean room, bed, cable tv,
internet and good cell service, with a million dollar view
then ledgerock is the place. also its not the kind
of place you will find those noisey yuppie families
like you encounter in placid . no halls for running
children all day and seemed like most of the night too
as i encountered during all my lake placid stays.
this place is quieter and tends to attract a more polite
and less rushed clientele with well mannered families.
the ledgerock is now my only hotel for my visits
to the adirondacks.

Like others have stated, this motel has a phenomenal view! We stayed with two children ages 2 and 8. The room was average but huge! The kids had a great time running around the room. We were very very happy with the location, room, and especially the view. If I was going on a trip with just my husband and I, I might consider staying at a fancier hotel....but this is a great choice for families!
Each room has a microwave and apartment size fridge, which works out perfect if you have kids that need to come back and take a nap around lunch time.
The rooms have two doors, one in back and one in front to your balcony and view of Whiteface. The balconies all have chairs for the guests, which I thought was great.
The motel is on a main road but seems far enough away from anything else that it is very quiet and peaceful there.
It is only 10mi. from the Lake Placid village and there is a great little diner down the road. Also High Falls Gorge is just down the road towards Lake Placid.

  • Liked — The view of Whiteface Mountain right from the room.
  • Disliked — The mattresses were pretty stiff, especially after a day of hiking.

We felt the room was very spacious - Dave, the owner, was very helpful. It is somewhat outdated but was very impressed. They had a great room to hang out in and play pool or watch a movie - great view of Whiteface Mountain. We would definitely go again.

We stayed at Ledgerock from July 18 to July 22, 2008. We were there to watch family members compete in the Ironman competition at Lake Placid. There were a total of 9 of us - all adults - staying in three rooms.

The first thing that strikes you about Ledgerock is the absolutely INSANE view! Whiteface Mountain is directly across the street and it is the most majestic view you'll ever experience.

The people that run the place are extremely friendly and accomodating. If you have any questions regarding the area, they will help you in great, accurate detail.

As far as the rooms, they are average. By no means are the accomodations dingy, but they are fair, at best. We all found the beds to be a bit on the stiff side and the sheets are blue-light special grade, but none of this was what I would consider a major distraction.

If you are looking for a place to sleep - that just happens to provide a phenomenal view - then this is a good choice. If you are looking for luxury in your stay, then don't bother; you'll just end up here at TripAdvisor compaining.

...Oh, and make sure to go across the street and shell out the $17 for the gondola ride up Whiteface. It's well worth the money!

We stayed here in June of 2006 and loved it. The view of Little Whiteface is still nice. The rooms are larger than most in the Adirondacks and well insulated from noise. I was disappointed this trip because the only thing I asked for was a room without any perfumes or scents, due to my allergies. The odor didn't knock you over but was pervasive despite our running the fan the entire time. The room really needed airing out. This would have been better done by a maid than us because It was hard to have both doors open and maintain a sense of privacy. As a result I did not have a good nights rest. The toilet seat took you for a ride every time it was sat on. I would have told the management about the loose seat but when we left around 7 am, the office was locked. No one was there to ask us how we liked our stay.
