“Poor Service”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2009

My husband and I booked a night at the hotel for our honeymoon. After calling the hotel to ask if they had a park and fly option, we decided to stay an extra night instead of going to one of the typical airport hotels. What a mistake. I was told there would be a shuttle to the airport. However, when we asked the front desk to set up a pick up time they told us a shuttle would not be available until 6am which was not early enough to check in for our international flight. With no complaint we paid for a taxi. Upon arriving back at the Buffalo Airport on our return flight we called the hotel for the shuttle back to the hotel. We were told that the shuttle would come around to get us. After waiting 40 minutes, we called the hotel again. We were told the shuttle had come by three or four times, we must have missed it but they would send the shuttle again. Twenty minutes after that when the shuttle finally arrived the driver could tell we were not happy. When he asked if we had been waiting long we told him what happened. He said that he had not been to the airport in over an hour because he was making trips back and forth from the restaurant. The front desk hadn't called him to pick us up until 20 minutes ago. When we finally arrived back at the hotel and made a complaint about the shuttle service their only response was that what we paid for was the parking, the shuttle is offered as a courtesy. To make matters worse, a few days after our trip I found that we had been charged twice for the room and parking. When I called the manager to correct this mistake he said he would look into it and call me back. Three days later when he never called back, I went to my credit card company who readily solved the problem for me. However, a few days later a third charge for the same amount showed up on my bill. So a last minute decision to stay another night at our honeymoon suite because we could get the same services we would receive at an airport hotel was a really poor decision. I would not go to Garden Place again because of the awful service and rude workers.

My husband and I stayed here while on a business trip and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The room was very clean, the shuttle driver was super friendly, and the price was terrific! We had dinner at the restaurant - Salvatore's - our first night and the service and food were very good. We opted to stay in a room with a jacuzzi tub and it was very nice - we really enjoyed it.

The only down side was the complimentary breakfast. Lots of dirty dishes in the clean stack at the buffet and the choices were mediocre.

It would be worth it to skip the freebie and just pay for breakfast somewhere else.

I've stayed at the Garden Place twice. First time was in April of 2005 as my wife and I got married at Salvatore's, the restaurant affiliated with the Garden Place, and stayed at the hotel. We loved the over the top decorations and "garishness" of the place, if that's a word. It made our wedding a real blast and we were able to overlook a lot of the faults of this place. In some ways, the faults were part of the appeal if that makes any sense. It's just kind of funny that they make this place out to be a ultra-luxurious, high end hotel when in reality it's a bit dumpy, not very clean, and run down but with gigantic chandeleirs and clown statues everywhere. Anyway, we stayed again last week and I have to say the charm definitely wears off quickly with the Garden Place. The crazy decorations and fountain outside are still kind of fun and you just shake your head and laugh at them. But once you get into your room you kind of get hit hard with reality. We got a jacuzzi suite, which was basically a standard room with a jacuzzi in the room. The room was ok--not nearly as nice as a basic Courtyard by Marriot, but nothing too scary. It just wasn't "luxurious", not by a mile. The bedding was from JC Penny (said so on the label). The tv was tiny. The jacuzzi was dirty (I don't want to even think about it) and wouldn't drain. The shower was horribly designed--the only way you could turn it on was to actually get inside it, thanks to a large plate of glass in the way. The temperature controls in the shower did not work. And we had a lovely view of the back of La Quinta Inn next door.

One point about Salvatore's, the restaurant affiliated with the Garden Place. My in-laws got us the package where you get dinner at Salvatore's and a night at the hotel. Well, Salvatore's is bad--I mean, cafeteria food bad. And it's not cheap, not by a mile. I was shocked by how mediocre the food was. Yes, the restaurant is also amazingly/tackily decorated and a must see, but don't expect much from the food.

This is sort of a once in a lifetime place--if you have a sense of humor and love really garish, bad art type decorations, then check it out. But have realistic expectations. They bill themselves as high end/ultra luxurious, but the reality is much different.

The most wonderful hotel, the rooms are large and leave the guests wanting nothing. the staff go over the top to make your stay unforgetable. I will never stay anywhere else when I am in the area. Beverages all day long in the courtyard. A wonderful breakfast, and the food and service in the restaurant is unbelievable. If you like luxury beyond belief this is the place to stay.I have taken more than 25 pictures and I will be showing EVERYONE.If you are picky and like luxury them this is the place to stay I WILL BE BACK. I was a little apprehensive when we first got there, especially after reading a few reviews about the terrible staff. However, the person who greeted us was really sweet. The decorations were definitely over the top, and the jacuzzi next to the bed with all the mirrors around it looked like it could belong in a porn video. The room service hours were also limited to after 5pm (or something around that time). But our room was neat and clean with all the basic amenities and all the staff that we spoke to were really pleasant and helpful. The jacuzzi also turned out to be a lot of fun. Overall, it was an enjoyable experience.

The service at this hotel was GOD AWFUL! Upon checking in, they put us in a room right by the cafe area. Needless to say, we could hear all of the noise outside of our room, so we requested a room change. We were then moved to the third floor where the location was a little better, despite the loud ice machine next to our room. Anyways, when we checked in we used a credit card to hold the room, and planned on paying with a different card when we checked out. The staff ensured us that this would not be a problem, When we returned home on Sunday, our online banking accounts showed that the charges were made to the wrong card. Not a problem. We called the hotel and they said that they would put the charges on the other card. The next day we see that they haven't done a thing, except charge the wrong card AGAIN, but this time for $100 more than the first charge. WHAT A HEADACHE. So again, I call, and they say that they will take care of it, and call me once the changes have been made. Another day goes by and still no call. Finally I call them and I am given attitude by the GM stating that the card was refunded the night before and that they have a recipt. I then called my bank who stated that no refund was made, and they filed a dispute so that I would no longer have to deal with these rude people. THANK GOD! The staff made no attempt at trying to compensate for their mistakes by giving us a discount or even a sincere apology. Another thing to note is that they all sit on the side of the building and smoke cigarettes right by your vehicles. It was a hot day so I left my windows cracked and when I got into my car it smelled TERRIBLE from the smoke. Never again will I stay at this hotel, nor will I refer others to stay here.

You either get the uniqueness of Salvatore's or you don't. We stayed for two nights for a shopping getaway. Our stay cost $270 for two nights and included a great dinner for two at Salvatore's Restaurant and breakfast each morning, a great deal. The shuttle to the restaurant was easy, dinner was probably the best lasagna we have ever had, great service, you can pick from the entire dessert menu. Breakfast includes, juices, danish, donuts, eggs, sausages, muffins, fruit salad, tea & coffee. Our room was spotless and the tub was a relaxing treat after a long day of shopping. 10 min drive to two Target's, a Wegman's, Toys R Us, Steinmart, TJ Maxx, Marshall's and 25 minutes from the Niagara Outlets.
