“Satisfactory”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 18, 2013

I stayed at this hotel on business for two nights in October 2012

This hotel was originally built decades ago, it's been updated, but has some challenges with today's business traveler expectations.

Highlights
The room I had was recently upgraded, well lit, with a comfortable bed and high quality linens including a duvet vs. a bedspread.
The entire complex was very clean, and clearly has a manager with a focus on maintenance
The executive lounge was comfortable with tasty hors dourves at happy hour
Employee service at the front desk was outstanding

Lowlights
The hotel has a centralized heating/cooling so the ability to customize your in-room temperature was limited
The bathroom was smaller than new construction, and felt a little cramped
Bar has a wierd sit-down low-level counter thing, where the bartender is lower than normal, it was weird.

If you care about your Marriott points, this is a good choice, if not, then it'sotherwise pretty much on par for the area within it's price range, and a decent option overall.

Room Tip: it's a long walk from the closest room to the lobby, if you get a far room it's a hike, so a...

Thank you so much for taking the time to review the Renaissance Westchester on TripAdvisor! You will be delighted to know that the entire property is at the tail end of a full "Reinvention", including brand new guest rooms and an amazing Great Room: Hive Living Room + Bar. The new rooms are brighter and more spacious, and we have fully upgraded the air conditioning/heating system so our guests can enjoy their favorite temperature year round.

With the hotel's sleek new guest room design, the delicious offerings by our award winning Chef, and the super friendly staff, I feel confident that you will rave about us again upon your return. We hope to see you soon, meanwhile, thank you for the great feedback!

Just a joke in all aspects. Renovations everywhere, loud, messy overpriced. Be better off sleeping in your car. The beds are actually fine, and so is shower and tv. No lobby per se,charge for internet is 13 bucks a day. Ridiculous. Overpriced restaurant. Must drive from reg. desk to par

Dear Guest: Thank you for this valuable feedback! I am delighted that you were happy with the bed, the shower and the TV... three key items for a great stay! And I am delighted to let you know that the "Reinvention" is almost over. The new Great Room concept for dining, Hive Living Room + Bar, will be open very soon, and the new Guest Rooms are spacious, bright and sleek. I am sorry about the internet charges...If you are a Gold or Platinum Marriott Rewards Member, that service is complimentary, and it is also at no charge in our business center. I hope you will come back soon to try us again!

“Presently Under Construction”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 15, 2013

As always, the staff makes this hotel a great place to stay. I got to stay in a newly-remodeled room my first night here. If you have ever stayed here before, you will not recognize the rooms. Completely redone and very modern. Unfortunately, because of the new construction and because I was the first guest to stay in the new room, I was the one who discovered that the hot water line was not connected. The next night, I stayed in an unrenovated room on the second floor, which was unfortunately located beneath the third-floor renovation. So it was very noisy 'til surprisingly late at night. You can still enjoy a stay here. Just be careful about your choice of room.

Room Tip: Be aware of all the renovation going on. If you don't like noise, don't stay in a room below...

“Learned a valuable lesson”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 14, 2013

At least this hotel taught me a valuable lesson - never ever stay in a hotel undergoing a renovation. Lesson learned!

My husband has stayed at this hotel numerous times within the past few months due to working in the area (in fact he is still staying at this hotel as I write this review). Based on his good experience and their "great executive lounge" (his words), he booked this hotel for all of us to stay at during our early January visit to New York. Upon checking in we discovered the "great executive lounge" was closed during the entire length of time we would be with him. We were given some comp. coupons for breakfast and an appetizer in the one restaurant that was open. It was acceptable food but nothing noteworthy. According to my husband, the executive lounge has since reopened.

The morning after we arrived, temporary construction walls went up in several common areas of the hotel. No big deal - just not very attractive. There was construction noise starting very early in the morning until late in the evening throughout the length of our stay but at least it didn't wake us up or prevent us from falling asleep at night.

The afternoon we (my kids and myself, husband was still occupying the room) returned from a brief trip to Vermont (there and back in less than 24 hrs), there was a note under our door informing us that all the hotel water would be shut off from 12am - 4am due to the renovation. However, somehow the HOT water was turned off long before that time and when my son started his shower at 8 pm, the water was not heating up. Maintenance comes in, tells us to give it 20 minutes for the water to reheat and leaves. Long story short - at 10 pm there was still no hot water, four tired people still needed to use the shower and 2 hrs were left before all the water was being shut off. The front desk manager got an earful from me (I even told him that this would be mentioned on my TA review so this will be no surprise for them). He apologized and let us use the adjoining room free of charge for the remaining two nights of our family stay. There was eventually sufficient hot water for warmish showers about 10:30 pm.

I understand that hotels have to undergo renovations and remodels in order to remain competitive. I just wish my husband would have been notified that it was taking place when he made his reservation and then I would not have had my high expectations met with such a disappointing stay. He has stayed in several other hotels in the area and we could have selected one of those. In no way was this particular hotel experience up to par with the Renaissance brand image.

“Dirty and loud”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2012

This hotel was not what I expected. I got to the hotel 1/2 hour earlier than I had said when booking and room was not ready and was told the room would not be ready for another 2 hours. I was heading into the city with some friends who were staying at the hotel so put my bags in their room. They informed me that they had to change rooms because they were woken up at 8 am by banging from the construction that the hotel told them would start at 9 am. The hotel never mentioned this construction to me. When we got back from the city around 2 am I checked in and was still not told about the construction. Sure enough 8 am I was woken up by the construction. I got up and went to the bathroom and noticed one of the towels had a large brown stain on it. Needless to say I did not shower at the hotel. I just packed my bags and left. When I checked out they asked me how my stay was. I told them about getting woken up and they said "oh that must have been from the construction". Yeah the construction you never told me about. It seemed to me that they knew there were issues and were trying to hide them hoping I wouldn't complain. I will never return to this hotel again.
