“Great food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2014

The waiters and waitresses are European! Loved the steak and pizza! Had a great view of the lake! And we love Molly and Waldemore...

4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2013

We went to Coco Café last September...
This place is so charming!

The terrasse is up to the lake Champlain (what a view when the sun is going down!!)
The waitress was a French girl, who was very kind, professionnal and cool.

Our meal were very good!

I would definitely recommand this place and will certainly go back!!

“Textbook Misrepresentation”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2013

We booked two rooms at Normandie for three nights this august.

Let's start with the morning:
Breakfast, included, was described as: "Included with your room, Served daily from 8:00-9:30am in Normandie’s CoCo Café. Specials vary each day including local fresh eggs to order, fresh fruit, hot and cold cereal, pancakes, french toast, waffles and needless to say supplemented with locally produced, mouth watering maple syrup."

When we showed up, they told us that the breakfast special was a "one-eyed pirate", a piece of bread with a hole cut out of the center and an egg fried in it, i'm sure you have some name for it. We said no thanks, we'd just have scrambled eggs. They responded that the one-eyed pirate was the special of the day (our waiter spoke very little english, I believe he was russian?), and that it was our only option. I brought up the website's claims of breakfast, and that it failed to mention that there was a single breakfast option and that it was the ONLY option. Additionally, the only form of "fresh fruit" available was a SINGLE apple and SINGLE orange slice on each breakfast plate. Breakfast our second day was blueberry pancakes, but the "locally produced mouth watering maple syrup" was clearly imitation.

Moving on, a motivating factor in booking a room at Normandie was the activity options- their activities page - http://www.normandiebeachclub.com/activities.asp - shows four sailboats, and mentions windsurfing, kayaking, fishing, pilates, yoga, etc.

a) Sailboats: when we were there, only one sailboat was available: there was another on shore that was "broken", and there were no others on property, contrary to the image of a group of them on their activities page.
b) Windsurfing: I asked about windsurfing, and was told that they didn't have windsurfing sails, only the boards, and that we could only take the boards out if there was no wind.
c) Pilates/Yoga: we asked about yoga classes, and were told that we were the first people to ask for a yoga class this summer, and were given the cell phone number of a teacher in Essex (nearby town) and were told that we were free to attend her classes (with a fee).

Additionally, whenever there was any sort of wind on Lake Champlain (which is, if you're unfamiliar, pretty much always), you were not allowed to take out any boat besides a kayak. Here's the twist: there are kayaks enough for five people, but only two kayak paddles, so several children were sent out in kayaks with canoe paddles. Pathetic.

What else? When we arrived, our room was dirty. After we called for it to be cleaned, we found an open coffee cup full of whiskey in the fridge.

The "Beach" was a small, dirty stretch of pebbles and "sand" by where the boats were, that can't have been more than 10ft wide and perhaps 50ft long. Far from a beach club. The "wide variety of movies available" included only VHS tapes, the majority of which were home-recorded. So thanks for that. We looked at the menu for the café for other meals, but it was unnecessarily expensive. When we asked about the supposedly included fishing, we were met with blank stares.

The swimming pool was a shallow, sad, tiny puddle of a thing. Thoroughly missable. We didn't manage to find the welcome center, ping pong room, video room, fitness facility (the staff member we asked didn't know where it was), etc etc etc.

Really, for the price, skip this place. You'd spend less money at the mirror lake in, for a much nicer stay.

“Coco Cafe at Normandie Beach Club: Very Good!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2013

We are often in Westport, New York in the summer. We go every summer. For a few years now, the Coco Cafe at the Normandie Beach Club seems to be the summer place to have dinner! You don't HAVE to make a reservation, but it's a good idea. The place gets crowded on pretty summer nights b/c you can sit outside and eat right next to a beautiful spot on Lake Champlain! The food is very good, with a French influence. The prices for entrees are a little high, but not prohibitively. The best news is that they also have pizza on the menu (very good!) and hamburgers. While this is probably due to people with children and teenagers eating dinner with them, it's also great for adults on a budget or maybe even if you just don't feel like having a whole entree. The service is pretty good....usually young people who are waitressing or waitering over the summer, so it's not always spot-on. No matter. You can sip your drink and look at the lake. There's also indoor seating,,,don't get me wrong...but on a pretty night with the moon on the lake? You can't beat the outdoor seating. Tip: go either during sunset or just after, or the sun is in your eyes. Parking is spacious and in a field area. If you have anyone in your party who cannot walk well, they can send a golf cart to get them! (Call in advance.) One more thing: I don't think they are open year-round: just in warmer months. Call ahead to ask questions before venturing over there, as occasionally they will also be closed for a wedding or other big party. There are still cabins and many people still stay there overnight. It is a beautiful spot. The food is worth it. Give it a try when you are in Westport, NY!
