We were able to get a room at Jeannie's Dream Motel on fairly short notice right during the annual Madison Bouckville Antique Festival. Both Jeannie and her husband Vinnie are super-friendly, not intrusive, want to be sure everything's okay. If you want a taste of what old US Route 20 was like before corporate hotels took away all the business, stay here. If you believe in buying local, stay here. If you want a room that is impeccably clean, stay here. There's coffee in the morning, friendly people staying at the motel, and a gorgeous view out over rolling hills. The king size bed nearly filled the room, but it was more comfortable than what we recently slept in at a Hyatt hotel. The water is hot and plentiful, the cold water is delicious.
While the address is West Winfield, driving west from Bouckville we passed a sign that said "East Winfield" so don't let that discourage you. From this location it's an easy drive to Cooperstown, Sharon Springs, Fort Klock (an historic site dating back to before 1750 and featured in "Drums Along The Mohawk"), even Utica and various colleges.
Finally, the price cannot be beat. This time of year, anything closer to Cooperstown goes for double what we paid at Jeannie's. Be prepared to drive a bit if you want upscale dining. Other than that, ask where's good to eat and you'll do fine.
