“Never made it to order”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2010

The only positive is the view. The service was sluggish. Even though there were only six other tables, we waited nearly 30 minutes for out order to be taken. We left without eating. The only thing that we can say about the food is that the bread is stale, the soda poorly calibrated, the cocktails are short and the wine cellar is empty.

“Will Never Eat Here Again”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2010

Stuck-up and slow staff and overpriced food. I would rather eat at McDonald's.

“OK -- but needs work”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2009

We ate here for dinner and 2 breakfasts. Service was consistently spotty .Our waitress at dinner was gruff ,and mildly unpleasant .Nothing nasty ,but not friendly either. The food at dinner was above average .All 4 of us liked and enjoyed what we ordered.
The breakfast buffet was below average. The staff was hard to track down and items were consistently out and hadn't been replenished. For $10+ bucks it was disappointing.
The setting is very nice and during the day ,if you can get a table on the "porch "or by the windows you have a great view.
Overall ,not the worst ,but certainly lots of room for improvement.

“Scenic View with Great Buffet”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2009

Was part of a West Point Senior Trip and we never expected such wonderful food! Everything was elegant and delicious. A wide variety of flavors from soup to desert was enjoyed. My husband and I are picky and only eat at the finest restaurants, this one rates Five Stars.

“Dine in-room or dining room - wonderful food!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 15, 2009

Our trip to The Thayer was delightful and in part because of our dining experience. My husband is handicapped and we try to have in-room service for meals. This makes for less than perfect conditions with the food but not so with The Thayer. Our food was delivered quickly and it was hot off the grill. I had the roast duck with rum/coconut sauce, mashed potatoes and asparagus. Plus the house salad. My husband had a club sandwich and he had apple pie. I had cheese cake. All was delicious. In the morning, the coffee was great as was the ample breakfast buffet. Nothing negative can be said about the quality of the food and the professional staff. It is not inexpensive but worth the cost for a great dinner. Enjoy!
