Every once in a while my inner carnivore demands to be satisfied. When the urge hits me and it is not a special occasion I head for a local Outback Steakhouse. These large restaurants, with their faux Australian atmosphere offer steaks and side dishes at a reasonable price. Probably the best buy is the small size Outback Special. You get 6 oz. of choice steak plus a salad and side order of vegetables for under $10. If you choose your side dishes wisely, the calorie count is as moderate as the price. On the other hand Outback offers a full selection of fat drenched dishes which will make your cardiologist rich. Choose you own poison.
The meat is nicely trimmed and flavored and usually cooked to order. Send it back if it is over or under done. Teach the kitchen staff a lesson. The waiters are obsequious and over friendly. It is a restaurant suitable for children over 10. The restaurant noise level is high so a few childish shrieks won't make much of a difference.
All in all, a decent meat meal at a reasonable price, if you don't expect too much.
