“Made to feel at home.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 1, 2013

We had 3 great nights here, with Gordon and Diana going out of their way to make us feel at home. Our room was furnished to the highest standards and the breakfasts were wonderful. The home-made marmalade and chocolates were delicious! The house was well situated to see the scenic Coromandel Peninsula; also to have lovely views and a refreshing swim in the sea at the bottom of the garden. Lots of great memories!

Thanks to Diana and Gordon who made us feel like home - also because they put up the Austrian and South African flags for their current guests ;o) Right on the beach location with a big garden and wonderful view over Simpson beach - but you will need a car to come to sights and restaurants. Bedroom and bathroom were very clean and big enough for the three of us. The beer at night at Gordons ground floor bar combined with his stories about the region were so nice. Dianas home made breakfast and sweets were very delicious. We would highly recommend it to families and people searching for a quiet and relaxed surrounding.

Thank you for your response. Yes we have flags of 45 countries which we display for guests in an endeavour to make them feel "at home". We are also happy to provide free transport to and from restaurants in town in the evenings so guests don't have to worry about drinking and driving

The views from the lounge are mesmerising, the view from the hot tub special and pretty good from any point of the B&B. Gordon’s knowledge of the area is impressive and complemented by his vast array of interesting stories. Diana works constantly to make the stay a relaxing and pleasurable experience (especially home made chocolates). The help with laundry, internet access and lifts to local restaurants was appreciated. The large and roomy property is very well maintained with a number of extra facilities available for guests. The place is in a very quiet location and provides an excellent base for some of the best scenery in New Zealand at a very reasonable price.

Really a great place to spend some nights when in Whitianga. The hosts, Diana and Gordon, are incredibly friendly and will share a lot of great stories with you; and of course you can ask Gordon everything about the Coromandel region and what to do there, he'll come up with great ideas for your holidays. The house is right on the beach and the rooms are large, with ensuite and walking wardrobe, and very well tended. Lots and lots of facilities, from the rich breakfast to the spa, the big screen to watch movies on a rainy day and the awesome homemade cookies and chocolate truffles that Diana put in your room every morning.
Definitely recommended.
But if you really like the Christmas atmosphere, then, above all, you must stay at least one night here during Christmas time...don't want to spoil the surprise..but the kids of all ages will love it!

This was by far the best accommodation we stayed in during our trip around the North Island. We were treated like family from the moment we drove in. The hosts clearly love their country, and they were willing to share their knowledge of the region and its history. When recommending that we visit Hot Water Beach, they gave us a shovel and beach towels, and even dried our togs after a relaxing dip in their hot spa. Breakfast was great - perfectly cooked poached eggs, more types of cereal and muesli than I could count, and delicious jams and local honey. They really are 'on the beach' and the view from the living room window is spectacular.

From the start we were made to feel like visiting family. Tea and home baking on arrival was just the beginning. Diana and Gordon were one of the most warm and friendly couples we encountered in New Zealand. Great tips on what, where and when to visit different places ; beach towels on hand and a drink in the hot tub ready after our swims in the lovely bay; films and ice cream on a wet afternoon and lots of chatting and wine. Breakfast and dinner were excellent. Our bedroom was comfortable and spacious and had a good walk-in wardrobe, which also housed a fridge. It had excellent ensuite facilities, tea and coffee and delicious homemade chocolates (thanks Diana).
Beautiful - people; house right on the beach; views and hospitality.

The view of Mercury Bay, seen through a huge living room window, is breathtaking. The beautiful, well-designed home is immaculately well-tended. The hosts, Diana and Gordon, are very friendly and informative, and obviously love to entertain. They are eager to share their considerable knowledge of the area's history and places of interest, and if only we had had a few more days to spend there, we would have extended our stay with them and further explored the beauty of the Coromandel Peninsula.
