“Spacious rooms , awesome views”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2012

We were lucky enough to negotiate a good winter rate price for our two night stay in Whitianga. The location was great overlooking the beach front. We had 180 deg views from our large windows which ran across the whole front of motel. We had the top floor which was a pain for carrying cases because no elevator but other than that we loved it. Bathroom was huge with bedat even. Kitchen was small but had everythign we needed. Loved the shutters on bedroom opening into lounge area which enabled view from our bed right out to the sea.

Room Tip: It appeared from what I saw of other rooms that they all had conservatory room off there lounges. Ou...

Tried to book the "Special rate" studio on the ground floor for a 4 night stay but it was only available for 3 nights. The booking staff were very helpful and offered us the 2 bedroom apartment on the first floor for the 1st night at a very reasonable price if we were willing to move. We were and it proved to be well worth while. The 1st floor apartment has that "WOW look at the view" factor. It was well appointed with a good bathroom with modern shower and spa bath. The kitchenette was well stocked with basic equipment (some motels are shocking) and the lounge with balcony with it's fully opening sliding windows was great. The staff helped us move to the groundfloor studio the following day. The studio was well worth the nightly rate again with good facilities (no bath) a small patio and a great view. We enjoyed our stay at the Waterfront.

The studio with kitchenette on the first floor (not ground floor) offers superior views of the waterfront bay and has a glassed in porch which has sliding windows for plenty of air. The accommodations arevery comfortable for two persons and the baths totally modern. Coffee, tea and basic kitchen items like coffee maker, toaster and fridge are in place to enhance your stay. Although a two burner stove and micro are also on hand, we opted not to cook but did takeout from one of the many options in town. Our small table and chairs in front of the large picture window looking at the bay had a better view than any cafe or restaurant in town! A grea stay and well worth the NZ 140 per night.

Room Tip: Get the first floor or second floor rooms for a better view. The ground floor units sit too low to...

Was our first holiday in New Zealand; we stayed at expensive hotels in Auckland and Tauranga before coming to Coromandel. We found the penthouse apartment everything we wanted. A great view of the beach and sunrise from kitchen, living and bed. The large bathroom with bidet and spa for two was perfect too. Coming from the Indian summer we found it a bit cold at first, but were immediately offered a second heater. The price was a steal for the space and convenience.

On arriving at the Waterfront Apartments, we found it was fully booked apart from a 2 bedroom house they also owned. Amazingly, we were offered 3 nights at $160 NZ dollars per night. It was amazing - fully equipped. clean, quiet and spacious, with a garden and communal pool. The staff were so polite and friendly, really pleasant and professional (Please take note Tuscany Villas in Rotorua). It was excellent value for money, and a good base for exploring the Coromandel peninsula.

Room Tip: Good location/great staff

All I can say is "Wow" or "What a view!" or "What a great balcony!" The Waterfront Apartments are not what I would call elegant but they are very comfortable and clean and feel very homey.Everything you need for a long or short stay is right there. The apartments are situated just a few steps from town and they are right on the beach. The building is faced away from Whitianga , looking out into the amazing island studded Mercury Bay with an unobstructed view. A well stock convenience store is right around the corner and several restaurants and amazing bakeries are just a stroll away. Most of downtown Whitianga and the harbor facilities are an easy and picturesque walk way.But when it's all said and done, the Waterfront's amazing view of Mercury Bay is a show stopper. It's teak and rattan furnished,all-seasons balcony just begs you to sip New Zealand wine and lazily watch the fishing boats come and go.
It's comfortable and convenient, the service is friendly and first rate, the view is marvelous. If you see Bill tell him I'm coming back!

  • Liked — View and the quiet
  • Disliked — you have to check in down the street at a different motel and then drive over to the Apartment
