“"Smiths Parking Lot Resort"”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2012

What a truly horrible property! I don't even know where to begin... We were forced into a three nights minimum stay, fully prepaid and 420 Dollars a night for a one bedroom apartment. For this price (maybe unless it was right in the center of, let's say, Manhattan or Tokyo), a property must be pretty exceptional to not make you feel like getting ripped off and to cut things short: It was everything but!
For starters, they call themselves "Luxury accommodation" and then don't service the rooms. That alone is a reason to steer away in my eyes: 420 Dollars a night and then you have to clean your room? They also don't provide fresh towels or amenities during your stay which is particularly nasty as there are biting ants everywhere and you have no choice but drying your towels outside. But it goes on...
The property is called "Beach Resort" but unfortunately, all you can see is a big parking lot (please refer to my pictures attached) and a road surrounding the property. The beach itself is hidden behind a big sand dune but only a short walk. As most of the coast in the area seems to be cliffs rather than beach, the tiny strip of beach within walking distance of the property is full with families, screaming children, wild dogs and -again- those pesky ants. Everywhere. We stayed for 10 minutes and then moved back to the Smiths, hoping to use the pool. But...
As many others here have written, the pool looks lovely but is completely unheated to save a few bucks. And this means it is absolutely freezing! I don't need the kind of overheated pools you often find in the US and am really not very picky when it comes to that but this pool was so freezing that it was made absolutely impossible to take a swim. It is also in the middle of the property which means that you get looked at by all your fellow guests who obviously stare at you knowing what a nut case one must be to jump into this freezing water!
The property itself... I couldn't stop thinking that the place was designed and built with the best intentions in mind but now ended up with some greedy owner who does anything to save some money and rip off some tourists. The entire place was modern and very spacious but nothing too special, rather a very cold but modern style. Unfortunately, it already started to show signs of age, there was mold and uncleaned bits around the bathroom (see pictures) and it only is a matter of time until things get worse. You hardly see any staff, the reception closes in the evening (very "luxury accommodation", I know!) and on the second day the latest it gets very annoying that you're supposed to clean up yourself. Did I mention it was 420 Dollars a night? Absolute insane and not worth it at all.
I can see a lot of positive reviews here and have addressed this with Tripadvisor separately. Maybe I am just picky, maybe most visitors simply don't have much travel experience which wouldn't surprise me in this far off area. But I am certain that any savvy traveler will be badly disappointed by this place!

Stayed with the family in a 2 bedroom Beach Shack just before Easter for 3 nights. Got a sharp room rate off the internet otherwise this place would have been out of our $ range. Yes, its a great location both in relation to the beach and Margaret River. The Resort is a bit schizophrenic with 3 bedroom, top of the range apartments with ocean views and the aptly named beach shack which are upmarket ATCO style portable homes. It pretty cool how they cater to such varying travelling demographic.

Anyway, the beach shacks are well appointed. It has lots of windows and natural light. They have 3 split system AC units to keep the place cool or warm as required. The shacks are perched on the access road so passing people can see in easily - dress appropriately! They are situated close together so it might be a bit noisy if all the shacks were occupied. The shacks are a bit smallish but to be honest you shouldn't stay in them too much as their is so much to do and see! The kids have 2 sets of bunks to choose from - the top ones have the AC unit blowing on them at close range so use the bottom bunks first. Shop at Dunsborough on the way there - the shop (a classy deli) is lovely but a bit pricey.

All in all a lovely offering in a fabulous spot.

We thoroughly enjoyed a stay at Smiths beach. The facilities are fantastic and the townhouse style room was great. Everything was clean and well kept, which can be s downfall of some establishments a few years after opening. The restaurant that is on the grounds offers a basic selection but was very pleasing. The pool area is the draw card, with a very visually appealing area to keep you occupied.
Overall a really nice location and I would be happy to come back.

Smiths beach Resort Wine Weekend with lamonts was amazing. The Wine Weekend is a new package that has been released and although I am not experienced with my wines, I am now!. The Chardonnays we had were outstanding, I must have tried at least 16 different $100 bottles of chardonnay. John Jens was amazing, so passionate about his wine, And the food was world class. Smiths Beach Resort would have to be my favourite, the attention to detail with my welcoming text on my mobile phone and the beautiful 1 bedroom aprtment I stayed in, was oustanding. Will be coming back again.....

My husband and I recently had our yearly sabbatical 5 days in the South West at Smiths Beach Resort and as always had a lovely stay.

We would like to thank Management who put a complimentary bottle of Lamont's red wine, and a scrumptious cheese platter in our room. This was to give us a Taste of what Lamont's are now offering the Resort!

The resort is now 4 years old, and is still looking like new and our apartment overlooking the pool is ideal for us.

Reading comments that we do not have daily service is a bonus to us, as when we stay, all we want to do is relax, eat, drink and walk to the beach without interruption to our privacy..

Our last stay was a little disappointing as the food and beverage was closed.

After partaking of the Lamont's tasting products we can hardly wait to return!

See you next year!

Room Tip: This location is so outstanding any room suits us! All rooms are a stone throw from the beach and...

The best weekend away I have had for ages. Stayed in an apartment which had good king bedroom with bathroom and freestanding bathtub downstairs, but upstairs was a huge open living room with big lounge, dining and kitchen. No ocean views from this type of room but it was just across from the beach. Were told the old restaurant and bar had been closed for 6 months so can understand why some comments about the place being disappointing but Lamonts have just re-opened the new Tapas Bar and the restaurant and they were both excellent. The meals were all exceptional and with the absolutely stunning beach across the road it has to be the best resort in the Margs area.

Just spent 6 nights in a 3 bedroom beach villa - lovely view and well equipped unit, but no WIFI (very high charge for those units that do have it) and poor range of TV channels, none for children. You could hear every sound in the unit as all tiled and the noise from the people having a party on the balcony of the adjoining unit was so bad we couldn't hear the TV even with doors and windows shut. No cleaning for the unit during the 6 days. The swimming pool was not heated, no towels at the pool which is poor for a place that describes itself as luxury style - certainly not 5 star even though the price was.The restaurant, shop and bar were all closed over Christmas/New Year period which was very inconvenient as it meant driving to shops for all basic needs, or for a meal or drink. No offer of refund for this lack of facility. This Restort is certainly over priced for what it was.
