“An outstanding experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 19, 2014

We have just spent the most glorious weekend at Cape Lodge! Our accommodation - deluxe spa Forrest sweet. A tranquil retreat, between our large spa overlooking the lake, private balcony, pool and lawn sports, we did not need to venture outside of the grounds. The restaurant both food and service was a, including our degustation dining experience was beyond exceptional. Then there was the two hour spa treatment. Walking through the grounds and relaxing under shady trees, this was truly a magical experience. Thank you Cape Lodge.

Room Tip: Forrest Deluxe Spa Suite, ground floor corner rm 26

Spacious rooms overlooking beautiful gardens, delicious food served in the restaurant by friendly and helpful staff and in a great location to visit the wineries and breathtaking coastline. Enjoyed the the wine tasting each day at Cape Lodges of their own wine. Loved being surrounded by nature; beautiful flowers, watching the variety of birds all around, butterflies and chicks on the lake. Had a great massage although not a spa onsite just a room provided. Only thing that was missing was a gym for us as the pool was a little small for proper swimming exercise. This place is one to revisit though if returning to Margaret river.

We stayed here for two nights of our honeymoon as a piece of indulgence. From the moment we drove in we were met with outstanding service and a room that literally made you think 'yes perfect'. Our room was a spa room overlooking the lake. It was private but open at the same time. The amenities in the room were excellent and every, well almost, whim was catered for. The morning breakfast was exceptional and a nice touch was when we complimented on the muffins the staff put a couple in a special box for us to enjoy later. We had a magnificent dinner in their well acclaimed restaurant and could not fault it. If you want a decadent get away you can't get much better than this

Stayed two nights with friends. For the wife and I. Our 4th visit.
Forest spa room. What's not to love about this exclusive, private resort. Beautiful gardens. Just the sound of the wind and the birds. Rabbits hoping about. Butterflies every where. Close to all the boutique wineries and producers.
As for the Restuarant.
We ate there on both Saturday and Sunday nights. The food was magnificent. And then came the surprise. Tony, the chef of some 14 years who I am sure, was renowned for his culinary delights, was no longer there, and there was a new chef; Michael.
I am so pleased he took the time to introduce himself on the Sunday night otherwise I would have thought Tony was still there and to have found out later he wasn't, this could have had some bearing as to a return to the Lodge.
I cannot remember what Michele's resume read like as I was still coming down from his bahen chocolate and vanilla desert, but Al, of us were totally taken by his food.
Welcome Michael. I Will DEFINATELY be returning to the cape.

Room Tip: Forest spa, upstairs rooms are best. Well, I reckon they are.

We have just stayed here for 5 nights & had a wonderful time. Upon arrival we were upgraded from a garden room to a forest suite which was much appreciated. Our room was large with separate bathroom and lovely patio. The overall decor is looking a little out of date for a 5 star lodge. Also really could do with iPhone docks in the rooms to play music (they are pretty standard in most comparable places now). Not all that soundproof though as we could hear the people upstairs in their bathroom and toilet! We had an issue with the bathroom and were promptly moved to another room for our last night. This time the lodge suite which is huge, quite dark and no outdoor area, plus you can hear reception staff so not very private. Must say the staff were all wonderful and most helpful. We dined in the restaurant for our first night and found it okay but very expensive and small serves e.g. 3 lamb cutlets for $44. Breakfast was excellent. Be aware that all wineries are closed for dinner so if you don't want to eat at Cape Lodge it involves a fair drive to find somewhere decent and really everything in the area is very expensive compared to Melbourne or Sydney. Watch out for the kangaroos though when driving. We dined twice at La Casina in Dunsborough which we enjoyed, casual Italian. Can highly recommend doing Margaret River Discovery Tours, this was a highlight for us and Sean is an exceptional guide.

Cape Lodge is in a fantastic location just a few minutes drive away from stunning beaches and hundreds of great wineries.
The property’s grounds are really picturesque with a couple of small lakes, a nice little pool area with loungers and umbrellas, a tennis court and a pathway for a pleasant stroll around the grounds and vineyards.
The accommodation itself is nice enough and well equipped. We stayed in a ground floor superior spa suite which had a lovely large patio area overlooking the gardens with a table and chairs and a sun lounger (which probably could have done with a cushion although to be fair, we didn’t ask for one, and if we had I’m sure one would have been supplied right away).
The rooms are open plan, so yes, from the bed and living area you can see into the bathroom (the loo fortunately though is in its own little room with a door) so your travelling partner will have to witness your daily ablutions, and the shower is over the bath instead of being separate which is a bit annoying, but the rooms are spotlessly clean with lots of storage space for large suitcases, plenty of room in the fridge to chill your wine purchases and free Wi-Fi.
Where Cape Lodge really comes into its own is with the service. The reception and restaurant staff are wonderful (as is the food) they are so friendly and you really do get the feeling that nothing is too much trouble. The restaurant is nicely decorated, comfortable and has great views. I also liked being able to have a nosey at the action in the kitchen through its big windows.
We also had a spa treatment which we booked at the last minute but was easily accommodated. The therapists aren’t based onsite so it isn’t a really fancy, schmancy spa room, but I have to say my treatment was superb – definitely one of the better treatments I have had in a hotel spa.
We were staying over Christmas and it was quite pricey (especially when I think about the room layout i.e. the bathroom situation) but all in all we had a wonderful stay. I would definitely return and also recommend it to others in full confidence!

My wife and I were driving around the Margaret River area in November, and spent 2 nights in Cape Lodge, in a Spa Suite room, overlooking the gardens and small lake. We had reserved the "Luxury Escape" special package, which included daily breakfast and one 3-course dinner.
The whole estate was very picturesque, from the drive in to the estate, past the vineyards, to the main house where the reception and check-in was warm and efficient. Our room was in a separate building about 5 minutes walk away, and on the ground floor, opening out on to a wide terrace, fronted by a large lawn and small lake in the near distance. Across the lawn was the swimming pool, with white Adirondack chairs strategically placed on the lawn, and lovely sun-loungers around the pool area. Unfortunately, the pool was not heated and the weather during that period, was unseasonably too cold to swim.
Nevertheless, the whole scene was just so nice, that we enjoyed just sitting around and sipping a glass of wine. Our room was large and spacious, with a huge open-style bathroom with jacuzzi bathtub, and it had all the comforts expected of a modern luxury boutique hotel.
The restaurant is located in a separate building by the side of the lake, and it was nice to sit by the window tables, gazing out at the water. This was especially nice while having breakfast. The standard of food was very high indeed, as was the service from all the restaurant staff. We can't compliment them more, for looking after us and making us feel welcome. Needless to say, we will definitely plan on coming back the next time we are in the region !
