“Great LONG Weekend Get-a-Way”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

This is one of the best lodges I have ever stayed at!!!
The room was decorated (Modern Rustic ) and very will done
The Jacuzzi tube is JUST FUN!! and a great view of the outdoors
The location is great to explore the wine country and the caves of the area.
The hotel restaurant is VERY nice and the menu changes every day . It also has a great fireplace to have a drink after a long day of exploring the area

Overall GREAT VAVLUE

If you need to unwind and relax, this is the place to go. A peaceful, tranquil setting combined with perfect service and delicious food, one could not wish for more. The estate consists of the main building which houses the reception, a reading room where you can have coffee/tea and fresh muffins and one lodge room and one lodge suite. We stayed in the lodge room which was big with a huge bathroom, nice furniture, comfortable king bed and a daily big bottle of filtered rain water. The only disadvantage was the privacy as people walk right past the windows to get to the main house. The other rooms are in separate buildings spread out over the estate. We had dinner twice, once a la carte and once degustation. Both times outstanding food and presentation. Breakfast which was included in the room rate was continental with a choice of cooked breakfast. My Asian omelette with prawns and my grilled mushroom on spinach and goats curd was excellent. Hotel guests can taste the estate's wines in their bar while looking over the little lake. There is a nice walking track around the estate. Expensive but worth every penny. We stayed 2 nights and felt refreshed and recharged like after a full weeks holiday.

A great place to base yourself for touring the region. The room was luxurious and the grounds relaxing. Mobile Phone access was terrible (probably deliberately)so the stay was also very peaceful. We had dinner at the restaurant and the food was great. We chose the tasting accompanied by the wines. Here is the beware .... it might be best to order one set of wines and share them with your partner. The food serving size was small (French) and wine serving size was large (Australian).

We were recommended this hotel by a friend so decided to trust their judgement. It looked very nice in the photo and I was looking forward to our stay but for the extortionate price I had hoped for better. Our room, which was changed because our booking was mixed up, had a nice view over the lake and was ok but not particularly luxurious and seems to be in need of an update. The design of the tiny balcony was annoying, every time you wanted to open out the door you had to move the outside table and chairs! We thought the service in the restaurant lacked professionalism, for instance with just four tables occupied one morning for breakfast our order was mixed up with another table and was slow. The food again was ok but not spectacular. The decor in the cavernous restaurant was dull and outdated. Having spoken to someone who lives in the area they told us Cape Lodge used to be a smaller place with a more intimate setting for the restaurant, shame it has changed.

Great spot ! Stayed 2 nights and thoroughly enjoyed every moment. The spa room was spacious and well appointed, staff were unobtrusive yet eager to assist in any way and the restaurant was superb...will be going back!
Only one criticism...wifi and mobile connectivity was poor :(

Our much needed return visit to Cape Lodge did not disappoint us, we spent 4 wonderful days and nights indulging in peace, relaxation, exquisite food and unobtrusive yet attentive service. We had to delay our visit due to illness and we were touched by the efforts the fantastic team made to accommodate our changes at a moments notice, clearly nothing is too much trouble for the staff committed to make you feel special and welcome. We have stayed in all of the room types at Cape Lodge, all were beautiful with their own unique character and we would stay in any of them in the future. The dining experience is second to none, a veritable feast for all the senses. Those of you that are undecided on whether to visit, we urge you to book and guarantee you will not be disappointed.
