4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2012

Rockingham Beach is a quaint little beach and dinning area. It is one of the nicer beaches we visited.

“Shark and chips and a beautiful bay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2012

A visit Rockingham for the day provides a good opporunity to walk along the promenade, sit and watch the harbour and learn some of thehistory of this attractive town. The promenade is ideal for people of all ages - a flat terrain with lots of places to sit, play parks for children and some very interesting paving slabs that provide inforamtion about how the city was formed and local celebrities from the 1800's.
The beach is very tempting and easily accessible. The revolving marble and granite ball water feature on the promenade is a feat of engineering and definittely worth a go at getting it rotating.
There are ample bars, cafes, retaurants and the VERY important fish and chip shops. The one we selected (Dhuey's on the corner of Bech Road and Flinders Street) also sold fresh fish and we spent an interesting 10 minutes watching Marc Kenly, the fishmonger, showing a client how to fillet a very large red snapper. The shark and chips was beautiful - definitely worth a try - the texture of chicken and a nice mild tast.

“Something for everyone at this beach”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2012

I cant believe that I was the person to ask tripadvisor to add Rockingham Beach as an attraction!

I spent time in Broome which supposedly has one of the world's top ten beaches, yet has actually no shade or barbecue facilities, forcing everyone to use the high price restaurants and bars. I thought it ridiculous that Rockingham, with its wide variety of beaches in a peninsular environment similar to Broome, wasn't on the radar, and that prompted me to nominate it as a place to visit.

Rockingham Beach has wonderfully shady trees by comparison, the council has provided a number of gazebos and barbecues so you can use the restaurants, buy fast foods or bring your own picnic.

There aren't any waves so it great for swimming for small children and it is a favourite spot for diving. The council does its best to maintain the lawns which are used for numerous games of beach cricket. It also employs several beach attendants to keep the beach clean.

There is a magical family oriented atmosphere during the day at weekends and public holidays, and many families have been coming here for generations.

The beach regularly wins awards for the best kept beach in the Perth area.

To the person who reckons this is an Average Joe Beach, I say you need to spend a day here with a group of family and friends and play some soccer or beach cricket or petanque and have a barbecue I think you may well change your opinion, as it is the atmosphere which makes it different!

The only downsides of this beach, which is probably no different to other beaches unfortunately, are the littering that occurs, and late at night at weekends with a couple of nightclubs round the corner alcohol related incidents occur which make it a place to avoid at that time and could benefit from some policing.
