“Very Enjoyable”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2013

Our Children had bought us a one night stay as our Christmas Present to Chimes.
We have been coming to Denmark for over 20 years and have always stayed at Karri Mia next door until its sad closure then we moved to Celestine which is Lovely

This was our first stay at Chimes and first experience of staying at a Retreat.
We were greeted by the owner Michelle and Kane who were both charming and helpful, we had one of the best rooms, king bed, spa, Balcony. our room was clean, bright and Beautiful Views.
A bottle of Champayne and Chocolates were also included a nice touch.

We also had a Hamam included which my Husband enjoyed I opted for a full one hour Massage which was one of the best I've had, the Girls are Balinese and so gorgeous.

We wanted to make the most of our one night stay so booked a platter and a local bottle of Red for our room this was superb, sitting on the balcony enjoying the view and relaxing which is what Chimes is all about.

In the morning we went for Breakfast which was lovely with lots of choice's and we also had the hot breaky too, extra cost, Eggs Benidict was just how I liked it

Hubby went for the Big walk after that and I had a facial and foot treatment, again lovely.

All in all our first Chimes retreat experience was Fantastic and would recommend Chimes to family and friend's, or any one for that matter and we would gladly stay again.
The negative comments I have read on here I find hard to believe but do not doubt there sincerity, all I can comment on Is what we received and experienced at the time,Truly Lovely

All the very best Andrew too, you will make a great host along with all the other wonderful staff :-)

Room Tip: We had room 9

As university students celebrating our graduation as well as our anniversary this was the most overpriced, horrible place we've ever spent our hard earned money on.

Not only was there NO HOT WATER!! (We were told that we were the only people staying there at the time so how they ran out of hot water, I will never know)
The service was abysmal, the breakfast was overcooked and the movies offered to us 'for our enjoyment' were cheap rip off Bali copies. Oh and did I mention the sheets were dirty on arrival? I honestly could not rate this low enough. 1 was far too generous.

Big big waste of money. DO NOT BOTHER!

We stayed here over the Christmas break with my family. The spa's grounds are lovely and have amazing views. The swimming pool is truly disappointing though - it's tiny, needs a very good clean and is stuck in a tiny greenhouse. There's no place to relax around the pool which is really disappointing and it was unappealing that we didn't even try and go for a swim (which is very unusual for us.)
The rooms are ok. The furniture was a little random and dated and I didn't like the yellow coloured bed sheets. The teddy bear and the diary left on the bed of everyone who visited the hotel was a cute touch -but some of the entries were disturbing. I'm not a prude but I don't really want to know what people got up to in the spa bath that I am about to use...
The breakfast was average. There was no fresh fruit which was disappointing for a continental breakfast.
Overall the retreat was relaxing. I like the games room which you could chill out at night and the port they leave for guests at night was a great touch. The staff were also really friendly and helpful.
The owners certainly have the right idea and the special touches make this hotel really unique, but for the high price you have to pay I would expect the rooms and swimming pool to be of higher standards. I think the hotel just needs a bit of sprucing up. Denmark is a special place and the location of the hotel is fantastic. But until the owners redecorate, update the furniture and bed linen in the rooms and replace the pool, I won't be coming back to Chimes.

Room Tip: The Spa was great - I had an amazing massage - definitely book one in if you are staying.

We don't usually stay at Retreats. So were pleasantly surprised with the space provided. We'd booked the King Ocean View and really enjoyed this suite. The space felt 'homely' and immediately comfortable to us. The staff were all welcoming and friendly. The garden, with ponds were nice (and even had frogs). At night the facility was quiet and the ocean view was also good. Breakfast had a lot of choice and was again a comfortable space with a relaxed pace. It's also an easy drive back in to Denmark or other places, like the Pepper & Salt restaurant. If you don't mind a walk you could wander to The Lake House Winery for lunch, but we drove to Forest Hill. The platter Chimes organised was excellent and filling. We also enjoyed the massage at Chimes. Overall, between Chimes options and what Denmark has to offer, you should get an excellent stay with a range of other activities and choices.

We stayed here over the boxing day weekend 2012 for 4 nights, this was our first time to the Denmark area and it was amazing. We were greeted when we arrived by an extremely helpfully and friendly member of their staff at reception who gave us all the information we could ever want and a bottle of champagne! The rooms where big we were in room 5 and the Spa was a real spa not a bath with Jets. Every day the room would be cleaned and a nice surprise would be around the room. The Bed was comfortable but unfortunately not a king because we are tall people it was a bit small but still comfortable.

The garden is beautiful and there is a BBQ area for guests to use, we used this one night and was great in a beautiful garden with a small stream you just need to bring some utensils ;)

There is plenty to do in this area and at Chimes they have heaps of board games and DVD's you can use with FREE WIFI and every evening they leave a nice Port out for you to sip.

Breakfast is full of options the complementary is great of you can go for the paided options.

Overall we had a great time at Chimes, this is a beautiful place and would recommend, the price was a bit high but when you look around Chimes it can be easily justified in comparison to other accommodation options in the area.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

This was our first trip to Denmark and we used a discount voucher (Scoopon). Had we not received a great price on this 2 night stay, I would have been pretty upset for what we got. We travel frequently and this is the first time we used a discount voucher on accommodation, so I disagree with another reviewer saying that young people who use these vouchers should stick to backpacker type accommodation. We quite happily spend a lot of money for accommodation and in return expect a certain standard.
The staff member who greeted us was pleasant and informative about the property and the area. Her push to sell us breakfast and spa facilities were a little annoying. As we had used the voucher we were did not have a hot breakfast included in our price. It was this and a few other little things that they charged for we found a bit disappointing. It was also the extra cost for a coffee made by a semi-automatic coffee machine and the $15 fee to have our room made up. These were little turn offs.
The daily breakfast was sufficient enough and the freshly made hot damper was a nice touch. The room where breakfast was served was lovely and gave us a great view of the area. In the evening they provided a complimentary port but found it a little bizarre that a place of this type not provide a service to 24 hour reception or free wi-fi.
There were multiple signs around the property advising us that certain areas were private property, which made us feel we couldn't freely go for a walk around the grounds.
We had "the best room in the house" which was nice, however it felt a little dated and needed some maintenance and a freshen up. The bathroom sink was cracked and a little mould in the bathroom.
My final gripe is about the female owner. on a number of occasions she engaged us in conversation and didn't show us the courtesy of actually listening and would cut us off to talk about herself or something in the area. We thought she was giving us great, current information on places to eat and we found 2 out of the 3 places she recommended were actually closed.
Now that we have discovered how beautiful Denmark is, we probably wouldn't stay here again as there are a number of other luxury, adult retreats to try out unless they gave us a great price on another stay.
Overall it was good, but not great

Room Tip: We had the best room in the house, but we travelled with a discount voucher and would not recommend...

We bought a Scoopon voucher, booked early and stayed in the best room in the house - The Tower Room with king size bed, balcony, spa. The only point against the Tower Room is there are a lot of stairs so be prepared. Also as the Tower Room is on two levels the toilet is downstairs. The service was excellent throughout our stay and catered to all our needs. The breakfast in the conservatory was fabulous and if you're really hungry I'd recommend the Eggs Benedict. There was also tea, coffee, biscuits and cake available in the conservatory during the day.The Hamam treatment was worth having especially with the added scrub and soap treatments. Altogether it was a lovely stay and we wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

Room Tip: Access to the Tower Room has quite a few stairs. Also living are is upstairs and toilet downstairs...
