“Good location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 2, 2012

Stayed one night in a powered tent site near the ocean after a long day's drive from Ningaloo Reef. We had the place to ourselves. Facility is a little run down but everything works fine and the staff is wonderful. Good free wi-fi and nice hot showers.

We visited Nanga Bay when we were running a bit late getting up to Monkey Mia and did not want to chance hitting the wildlife after dusk. We found it an excellent value compared to other campervan parks in Western Australia. The facilities are a little bit old, but totally acceptable and the proprietor was super nice. Views are also nice.

We just spent five days at Nanga. We were a bit put off after reading the reviews here but couldn't get into our preferred place in Denham since we booked too close to the school holidays. Turned out Nanga was a pleasant surprise! We stayed in one of the beach view units. The unit was large, spacious inside, good solid dining table and chairs (not crappy plastic ones you find elsewhere), linen, towels, toilet paper etc provided, kitchen was well equipped and everything was clean. The grounds looked well maintained (disagree with the other reviews that the photos must have been taken a long time ago, my photos look the same- only the bottle shop was pretty empty), the pool was a great hit with the kids, the hot artesian spa was fantastic, especially at night. We had a nice meal at the restaurant, as did a couple of other families. We enjoyed walking and fishing on the beach, was great for finding lots of different shells for young kids, much better than the one in Denham. But, yes, we did see asbestos or super six in the dunes and mentioned it to the staff. And the showers aren't great, but I didn't really expect anything else from a place right in the desert. It's not a fancy resort, it's an old station converted into a holiday place, but it was perfect for our holiday. We will definitely be back and preferred this over Denham as it was quieter, more remote, and had the two pools and the great beach. And sitting outside at night in total silence with the stars really bright was just beautiful.

We stayed here in July 2012. We were in a motorhome and rented a powered caravan bay for the night. The staff weren't in too much of a hurry, and one stank of marijuana.
The amenities were less than inviting. The ablutions are old, badly corroded and run-down. The water quality is brackish.
There are a number of rainwater tanks scattered around that do have good quality drinking water in them, and there is no restriction on the amount of this good water you can take.
Hot water in the ablutions was adequate, but the park was less than a third full, so there wasn't a lot of demand.
There's a small restaurant here, but it didn't look too exciting or inviting, so we didn't bother with getting a meal there.
BF_and_AA's report below is spot on. I can't add much more. The photos on the Nanga Bay Resort website were taken a VERY long time ago.
Resort? I don't think so.
Very average caravan park/camping area? Yes.
Location and natural beauty of the area? Absolutely unbeatable.

What an amazing place. I have never see such clean caravan grounds. It is the ideal place to go to just relax and do little. The fishing from the beach is amazing and kept the hubby happy. Mary and Jodie in the office are a delight and nothing was too much bother. It is nice to seee staff proud of their Park.Even Aj the gardener was happy to stop and chat to talk about the oark or his fishing experiences. It may not be 5 star but the hospitality is above and beyond. Definately Paradise and pleasantries.
I highly reccommend for those that need to destress and prices are very affordable.
Also don't miss the Sunset or the Sunrise it is breath taking even for winter. AAHHH I wish I could have stayed forever.

Nanga Bay Resort (http://www.nangabayresort.com.au/) is an old sheep station and some of the old buildings still exist. Basically, this place appears to have started off as a small caravanning / camping spot that has slowly grown. Unfortunately the amenities have failed to keep up.
Accommodation wise there are basic motel rooms, basic family cabins, backpackers’ dorms, tent sites and caravan sites. The accommodation is not cheap, but on par with most van parks. We stayed in a family cabin with 2 rooms (double and 2 twins) separated by a kitchen / dining. For four it’s fine and has most things you would need. That was $880 a week or $140 a night.
The toilet blocks / showers are very old and yes, sometimes the hot water runs out. Then you can wait half an hour for it to re-heat or have a cold shower. The toilets and showers are generally pretty clean but are quite old. Water pressure etc is good, but most of the water is artesian. There are rainwater tanks around the park which you can drink from.
We really used the resort as a base only (resort is a bit of an over statement unless used in the context of "last resort").
If you are a fisherman, you really need a boat or a 4WD to fish as the best spots are 8KM down the beach on land or 7NM out to sea.
There are fuel bowsers there, a little restaurant and a little shop. The shop is not cheap and neither is the fuel, but it's bearable. They sell the basics, some bait, some alcohol and other odds and ends.
The service from staff at the place is awful. There is one couple who appear to be managers who are very helpful. The rest couldn’t care less and are quite perturbed when you interrupt them doing nothing. But we didn't go for the service and so that had little impact. A word of advice, don’t email to book. Make sure you ring and arrange it.
So why stay?
1) Beautiful beach with calm waters and secluded spots, plus a boat ramp.
2) Nearby to shell beach and only 50KM from Denham and 80KM from Monkey Mia.
3) Good fishing.
4) Very, very, very quiet and peaceful.
5) Hot artesian spa to rest weary bones of an evening.
From our POV, we came for the location not the resort and the location did not disappoint. And really, for $880 a week for the resort, that's OK too.
However, if spending 8 hours a day fishing is not your idea of a good time, you may want to go elsewhere.

Room Tip: If you don;t mind using shared showers, the cabins are much better value than motel rooms.
