“Delightfully Different”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2013 via mobile

This place is why we stay in B&Bs. It is unusual, comfortable, quiet and in a convenient location. Our bedroom and all the other rooms are full of trinkets and artwork. The geese act as if they own the garden but they obligingly will allow you to pass through them as they madly honk. The LCD TV is kinda small but who cares - we are on holidays! Also, as mentioned by others, it would be nice if WiFi was available in the rooms...

Perfect in every way from the grounds to the rooms. Friendly, helpful staff and wonderful hospitality. Ideal location on the river, great place to sit and read the newspaper or watch the geese and other wildlife. Will be back for a longer stay as one night went far to quick to fully appreciate.

Was expecting more but disappointed. Honeymoon room is in with another bedroom. Bit bizarre. Room cluttered but ok. Bathroom/spa very average. View and location very good. Owners a bit ubrupt and seemed weary. Breakfast common room so overwhelming with items for sale, that it felt a little OCD. We won't be back but others will find it homey.

Thankyou for coming to visit. As you know, the Honeyroom was only one of two private in the Aislinn. Although both separate rooms share a 12m x 7m sitting/dining room that overlooks the Blackwood, your room (and the one on the otherside) is 6m x 6m with table and chairs in the bay window, a sofa as well as the bed in your room. The bathroom is also very large 6m x 4m with a spa that overlooks the river. We try to make the place homey with a few knicknacks and original paintings in your room. I may not have been so bubbly as I am in palliative care for cancer, and will not be there too much longer. Sorry you did not like the unique 100yr old barn for breakfast, but many love it. We do not have any rooms where we do not make them homely, but perhaps a standard motel room may be more to your liking in future

Loved the eccentricity and quirkiness of Ford House! Beautiful old property with additional newer buildings built in sympathetic style, lots of trinkets and goodies for sale are displayed in all sorts of spots, and 13 resident geese strut about letting you know who really owns the place. The huge communal dining table in the barn is fabulous, and the cooked breakfast is delicious, with home-made preserves and bread. Great spot for some peace and relaxation, easy walking distance to the shops and hostelries of Bridgetown. The honeymoon suite has a spa bath and is in a building with one other guest room and a very comfortable kitchen/dining/lounge room with log fire and doors opening onto a sunken paved area overlooking the Blackwood River. Lovely hosts and staff. Will definitely be back.

Well, what a pleasant surprise this place turned out to be. The house dates from the late 1800s and is tastefully decorated throughout. Walking in feels like stepping back in time! Each bedroom is different but all are clean and well appointed.
We had a very peaceful stay and were looked after well. Breakfast is served in the neighbouring barn/shop which is quite an experience. Every available space is lined with trinkets and items for sale. This only added to the charm of the place.

The only downsides were the lack of internet and having to share a bathroom, however if you're looking for an interesting and quirky B&B around Bridgetown then pay this place a visit.

Dear Alan,
Thank you for staying with us, and your wonderful comments. We do have wifi which is generated from the reception area. The signal does not seem very strong, but it is receivable in the barn and surrounding area. As you may know we have rooms in Ford House where you stayed which have a shared bathroom, and we feel disinclined to change the nature of the historic home, built in 1896. The Ballroom Suite in that building does have its own ensuite, as do 5 other bedrooms(70% of our rooms). Next time you visit, perhaps you might consider one of those, more expensive rooms. In the meantime we thank you for your wonderful company. Happy flying....

Ford House was built at the end of the 19th Century and is in the colonial style. Each bedoom has different facilities (see their website for details) but are all decorated & furnished in an exceptionally tasteful early 20th century style. There is a well equipped kitchen & dining room as well as a very comfortable sitting room. The house is set within 5 acres of riverside gardens and the hosts are most welcoming. Breakfast is served around a huge table in one of their shops in the grounds - cooked breakfasts, fresh fruits, cerelas, preserves & toast. This is quirky accommodation but with a delightful charm. This was our second visit and we were not disappointed,

Room Tip: The ballroom is perhaps the best room as the decor is the most interesting....and it has a modern en...

We never thought any accommodation in Australia could be that bad! How bad? Think of cold showers for two seniors when the temperature is 14.6 degrees Celsius, because the staff did not switch on the water heater. The premises had no phone, no internet and after 17:30 no staff. We're left to search the exterior of the house in dim torchlight, braved cockroaches and moved spare building materials, and found among spider nets the water heater switch for a part of the house. After that it was several hours' wait before a little warm water came out of some of the taps. We told the management in the morning about the problem we had, but there wasn't even a word of apology. Nobody cared to say or do anything.

Even if we brushed the incident aside, there were flying insects everywhere in the house, which fell on food and drinks. Breakfast was very basic despite claims the day before that they would be excellent. Service was like "hey don't bother me!" There was no washer and we couldn't find a guest laundry - yes we searched because there was no information as to whether it existed. There was no TV in the living room, only small old TVs in bedrooms.

We've been in hundreds of holiday accommodations over the years including ones in undeveloped parts of India and Nepal, but find this purported 4.5 star establishment in Australia an eye-opener.

sorry your experience was so bad. We are stunned to find your experience here was so difficult and when so many have enjoyed it. Normally the staff switch on the hot water as soon as people are booked in. I have reinforced the system to them... I was certainly not notified as I would have offered you some compensation. There is 24hr WiFi, but no phone as it is a retreat. This is why the TV is in the bedroom, not the lounge. We do have 24 hr phone service so that we could have upgraded you had you have rung us. Once again, sorry for your awful experience
