“A wonderful time”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2012

My husband and I wanted to incorporate a trip up north to enjoy the fall colours with an activity. We found the perfect pairing! We spent a day at Smoothwater Lodge in Temagami. What a perfect way to spend a few hours. We signed up for the Looking and Cooking with Edibles. Caryn, the owner of Smoothwater took us just steps from the lodge where we walked through the beautiful woods. She was quite knowledgeable on the various plants that we came across. How to identify them and whether or not they are edible. After a few hours we can back with a bounty of goodies. We cooked a lovely lunch together and enjoyed it on her deck. Who knew that you could make pork dumplings seasoned with pine needles! The food, company and setting was outstanding. We came all the way from Toronto and it was definitely worth the trip. We hope to come back again. Thanks Caryn.

Drive up to the lodge, basically straight from work, zero prep. Eat great food that nite and the next morning, at the lodge. In am review route with Caryn and go over the equipment. Strap Canoe on car, load stuff and dog, take off. 8 hrs later, sittin by a campfire, achy muscles and belly full with Caryn's delicious food, carefully packed with the gear they provide. Couple days later back at the lodge for more great food and stories.
It's a great place to decompress. I've been there several times both for canoeing and for skiing. Smoothwater does a great job at outfitting and preparing you.
We did Lake Cassells and Blueberry Lake, beautiful scenery, loons, mist on the lake in the morning, short portage. I loved it and I'll be going back.

What a great experience. Just came back from a 4 day canoe trip in Temagami with 7 friends and a dog. The trip was amazing and it was in no small part due to the Smoothwater Outfitters and Ecolodge. They were great. We stayed the first night at the lodge before we headed out on our trip. The accommodations were exactly what we expected, cabin style rooms in the middle of the wilderness surrounded by beautiful trees next to a lake. In the morning we were greeted by the owner Caryn. What a great source of information regarding the area of Temagami. She knows that place inside and out. We were then treated to one of the best breakfasts I have had in my life and it was served at her dinner table. The hospitality is second to none. We were outfitted with canoes and a few extras. All the equipment was in great condition. I have been canoe tripping for 40 years and I can tell you that this place is right up there with the best when it comes to outfitting. I would highly recommend them for lodging and outfitting. From Rob, Jerry, Mike, Billy, Brian, Idan, Ian, Oreo (the Dog) and me, thanks and kudos to Smoothwater for making our trip so great and effortless.
