“A very special place.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2013

This excellent guest house is one of the few remaining on St Mary's to offer an evening meal. It is definitely worth having a lovely meal cooked for you at the end of a day spent outdoors exploring the islands. I am a vegetarian but was always delighted with the 3 course meals specially provided for me. David's stuffed pepper was sheer theatre! Wingletang is a traditional Scilly stone building, sympathetically extended, with comfortable bedrooms and a friendly sitting room that can be used at any time. I was lucky with my September holiday weather, but grateful for the wood burning stove that was lit in the evenings. Jacqui and David are genuinely friendly, interested in their guests and can't do enough to ensure guests enjoy themselves. I am going to return next year.

I had a single room on the first floor which was small but very clean and comfortable with a newly fitted en suite. In the shower I would have liked a shelf or corner unit for toiletries. I did not need to use the lounge but it looked inviting and comfortable. Dave was there to welcome me and carried my case upstairs .At breakfast there was a choice of cereals, fresh fruit, juices and yoghurts plus a good choice of cooked food. Part of my family were staying in the loft room for four nights which was also clean and comfortable but watch out for the low beams!

Thank you for taking the time to enter a review for us and for your nice comments. We're pleased that you found Wingletang to be very clean and comfortable and that you enjoyed your breakfasts with us. We note your suggestion for the shelf in the shower, which has only recently been installed and this, along with some other routine tweaks and updating, will be addressed in the near future. Once again, thank you.

We stayed at Wingletang in August this year. Had a lovely stay in a super location with perfect breakfasts which set us up for the day to explore the islands! A very warm welcome with plenty of helpful advice. Would definitely recommend staying here to anyone. We hope to return one day.

We visited the islands at the end of June and had an excellent stay at Wingletang. The room was lovely and the food excellent !
David, Jaccqui and Debbie could not do enough to make our stay an enjoyable one.
Unfortunately I was taken ill part way through the holiday and was confined to bed for two days and the concern and consideration shown for me and my wife could not be faulted.
We hope to return to the islands soon and will certainly be looking to stay at Wingletang again - if they will have us :>)
Highly recommended to anyone looking to stay on St. Marys.

This was our 2nd visit to the Scillies & our first stay at Wingletang. Congratulations Jackie & Dave (& not forgetting Debbie). Wingletang is quite simply the best Guest House we have ever stayed at. Spotless room with lovely food. Special mention to Dave, his dinners were better than the restraunants we found on the Island Certainly we shall be coming back. Wendy & Jack Kuss PS Just have one question, Why is it called Wingletang?

Dear Wendy and Jack, thank you for the brilliant review you have entered for us and for your congratulations. We like to see that everything is as well as it can be at Wingletang, with the rooms being serviced and cleaned everyday, also we put in a lot of care to provide freshly made breakasts and evening meals. It's nice that our efforts are appreciated, thank you.

Wingletang seems to be a word that is peculiar to Scilly and we have been told that it describes the smell of the earth and growth, for example, the bracken, gorse and heather. If you were to approach the islands by boat, this is what you would smell.

This year was my thirteenth visit to the Isles of Scilly and my first at Wingletang. The welcome I received from David, Jacqui and Debbie made me feel I had known them for years. Although I was on my own I wasn’t lonely at all, the friendliness of every one including the other guest made it feel like one big happy family. Everything about Wingletang, the room, the meals, location and the people are great. I will most certainly be going back there next year.

Hello, lovely to hear from you on Tripadvisor and thank you for the super review you have given us. As you say, it was your first visit with us at Wingletang and we are delighted that you found the atmosphere to be congenial and that you enjoyed the company of the other guests. We also look forward to welcoming our visitors, whether it be for the first time, or if they have stayed with us several or many times over the years. It gives us much pleasure when we see guests realise how unique the Islands are, the beauty of the place and the friendliness of the people. Many thanks.

We had another wonderful holiday in these beautiful islands this year. Since finding Wingletang it hasn't crossed our minds to stay anywhere else - still the best B & B on the Islands in our opinion.
The breakfasts are great - I particularly enjoyed the selection of fresh fruit and yoghurt I could add to my selection of cereal, before tucking into my freshly cooked breakfast. The evening meals are beautifully prepared and presented (without being over-fussy) by David - it is getting harder to convince ourselves to try other places to eat!

We were well looked after by Jacqui and Debbie in the Dining Room - they are always keen to hear about your day and offer advice on where to go if you need it. We also enjoyed going to hear Debbie play (violin and saxophone) in the orchestra one glorious afternoon - they were in the conservatory at the Star Castle and we sat outside on the grass eating a cream tea and listening to 1920-40's music - wonderful!

Although fairly well booked, David and Jacqui are not complacent and continue to improve and modernise the facilities - including Internet access from all the rooms.

We have, of course, already booked a holiday at Wingletang next year - looking forward to it already!
