“Luverly jubbly, but.........”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2013

Just got back 21/7/2013. Got to say, the apartment was great and the owners attentive. Noise from the building work next door is dreadful. Concrete pump, hammering, putting up shuttering for the building, shovelling aggregate for the base (it is only at ground level so far, therefore I would anticipate work to carry on for some time). Starts at 07.00am and goes on until about 3.30pm. The other apartment owners in the area tried to discourage the noise but were ignored (heard that the builder/owner is a bit of a bully boy and has a reputation for this kind of thing. The norm is to build out of season, but this guy thinks he owns the town!!). Unfortunate, but the noise is not the fault of the Violatos. Because there is no pool area, chances are you won't be in the apartment for large parts of the day while the work is going on, but the early start is a nightmare. The new block will be called Apt Adios (or similar) and I hope someone else disrupts him as much as he is disrupting current holiday makers. He seems to have forgotten that we are holiday makers in the future and may be discouraged by his arrogance.

Room Tip: At present, the rooms at the rear have great views of the mountains, but when the block being built...

Whilst the rooms can be described as basic, they are spotlessly clean. Towels are changed regularly as are the sheets. Terrific value for money. This is a fabulous little resort; very picturesque and the restaurants are excellent value for money. We particularly enjoyed the company and the food at the "The Local" (just at the bottom of the road from the hotel). They serve traditional Greek food (the name does not suggest this) and is delicious. Also, the view from the outside tables is magnificent. Highly recommended.

Just spent a week at the Violatas apartments and in typical Greek fashion the cleanliness cannot be faulted, however the apartments are fairly small, we stayed in room 8 which is at the front by the stairs so tended to be quite noisy especially if there is a late arrival I.e. 2am the bus sits outside idling the engine for about 10 mins which is enough to wake you up! The kitchen is two electric hobs a sink fridge and kettle, no toaster though. The equipment was all there, pots, pans etc, we never ate in though so wasn't really an issue. The only thing was the kettle smelt of vinegar which was off putting and made our tea taste funny. The front room balconies require a bit of manoeuvring with doors tables and chairs as they are very small. Overall as an inexpensive base to explore kefalonia it does what it says on the tin!

Room Tip: Ask for a back room or one with a larger balcony.

We have just returned from a week staying at the Violatos Studios in Agia Efimia. Not our first visit there, but it is not as good as it used to be. The furniture is now starting to look old and past its sell by date with beds that creak when you move and although plenty of drawer space it looks passed its best. We had a one bedded apartment for 2 to 4 people, so had plenty of room for just the two of us.
My main two gripes were, we were told they owners had Wednesday off, so they wouldn't be in your rooms that day. What we weren't told is that they had Monday and Friday off as well. Greek toilets being what they are, need the little box of used toilet paper changing every day, not just three times in one week. We had one change of bed linen and towels and I don't think they made much of a job cleaning the room on the one day they are supposed to. I put it down to laziness, or a just don't care attitude. The other gripe is the really narrow balconies, not enough room to get past the table (which had been taken from Captain Carelli's restaraunt, presumably when they got rid) or chairs. Fortunately we had two balcony doors so we could approach it from both ways. The one room balconies must have been murder. We were on the front and the back balconies look about 6 inch wider. All the need to do is fit some brackets and alter them,
Would I go back? Doubt it, there are now newer apartments in the resort, which, in fact are cheaper. Agia Efimia is brilliant, with some good restaurants and Fior D'Amore snack bar is a must for breakfast or lunch.

Room Tip: Go somewhere else in A Efimia

We have just booked our 5th holiday to Agia Ephimia. This is the 3rd stay at the violatos apartments. We have had an upstairs room at the back and at the front. Spotlessly clean. Never seen such clean sheets.Enjoyed both rooms. Balcony is a little smaller at the front. No problem, had lots of fun people watching. Chatting to neighbours etc.(when we were in). Owners super, also the olympic reps Robert and Linda.Locals very welcoming and friendly. It always feels like returning home. We always hire a scooter for the whole 2 weeks. We take the scooter everywhere including on the the morning ferry to Ithaka. What a place. We love the casual way of life there. The beautiful bays and beaches not to mention the magnificent views.
You will love this magical island and all it has to offer. We are so looking forward to our holiday . Can't wait.

Room Tip: I prefer a high floor at the back.

When we stay in Agia Efimia we are not in our rooms a lot. This means that the slightly cramped rooms are no problem. We do however like to eat breakfast on our balcony. The one for our room, and the others at the back, was very narrow and needed very careful arrangement of chairs and table to seat us both. As with most of the rooms of this type in Greece the kitchen arrangements were basic but clean. The room was clean and tidy. The bins were emptied daily (with one missed). The sheets and towels were changed 3 times during the fortnight. The owners were there to greet us and carry suitcases up to our room but were unobtrusive for the rest of the time. There was no problem with the location as Agia is fairly small so nowhere is far from anywhere! There are no views of the sea but the rooms at the back have views of the mountains and we sat one night watching a great lightning and thunder storm. One little tip if you are staying there in May, not connected to the apartment block. Leave by the front entrance, turn right and immediately right again so you are walking away from the beavh. Continue to end of the road. Turn right and along this road admire the flowers in the meadow on your left!

Room Tip: There are no lifts and even the ground floor rooms are up a few stairs with no wheelchair access.

I stayed at the Violatos Studios last summer and have booked again for May 2013; what can I say, really enjoyed my holiday there, very close and handy for everything; the apartments are clean and I had everything I needed; the owners helpful and friendly. Agia Efimia is a really pretty resort and everyone is so friendly. All the restaurants and bars are great and very reasonable - can't wait to return next year! I travelled alone and felt very safe in the resort.
