“Good all-inclusive with friendly staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 6, 2014

My boyfriend and I stayed at Rodos Star in July 2013 for one week, and really enjoyed it. The staff were incredibly friendly and made us feel very welcome from the moment we stepped through the door. We arrived just after lunch, and although they had stopped serving food, they knew about our arrival (along with another couple) and had kept some food for us, which was greatly appreciated after a day travelling. Speaking of the food, this was really good and some of the best I have tasted in an all-inclusive; there was fresh Greek salad every day, lots of fruit and a good selection of mains. The all-inclusive drinks were also good, and the terrace bar open in the evening was lovely, with views out to sea. The reception area was equipped with WIFI and also a small shop selling towels, souvenirs, drinks and snacks. The rooms were pretty basic, but comfortable. On arrival there was a problem with our electrics, but someone came to the room very promptly to fix the problem and this was fine for the rest of the week. The room was also very hot, so I would advise people to get air conditioning if going at peak season – we decided we would rather save the extra money, and about half way through the week regretted it! The pool area got very busy and unfortunately there is no policy about leaving towels out, so by the time we had breakfast there were no free sunbeds near the pool. Also, the pool is fairly small so it was difficult to actually swim whilst avoiding, children, balls and inflatables. As the room was so hot I would be up early and often have a swim at around 7 am – this was ideal as the pool was empty, and I got to see everyone saving their sunbeds with towels!! The town of Afandou is a 10 minute walk away, and there were some nice bars with very friendly staff quiz nights, karaoke etc. The hotel is on a fairly steep hill, we did occasionally walk it without problem, but taxis were around 4€ from the bars, and very tempting at the end of the night!

stayed here with my mum for a week before my wedding, just to do nothing but relax. a last minute booking. Coach drops you off on the main road and then you lug your cases up a hill to the hotel, george the hotel owner has complained to the companies about this but they continue to do it. Hotel very small but thats what we wanted. Rooms basic but clean. Not a typical all inclusive and had times they served tea???? but food was always nice and fresh and a variety to be eaten. Pool freezing but welcome considering the weather was amazing. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and they would go out of their way to help you. 10 minute walk into afandou centre was nice (go the dirt track at back of hotel) nice bars and restaurants and where the main buses stop to take you to rhodes town etc. supermarket about 3 minutes walk along main road that stocked everything you could need. The massive downside to our stay but completely not the hotels fault was the bugs!!!!!!!! abosolutely massive and of an evening you were overrun by them. Considering the money you pay to stay here, it is well worth it and i'd stay again, although not with th echildren as there is nothing for them to do.

Room Tip: all much of a much i think

Me, my husband and my parents stayed at the Rodos Star for 11 days during October. We were looking for somewhere relaxing, not too big, and friendly, and the Star was all this and much more. I can honestly say that the family who run the hotel do all they can to make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. On many occasions if we had a query or needed some help we only had to ask and were immediately helped above and beyond what we expected.
I would like to say thank you to Tassos and his sister for making a good holiday into a great holiday!
About the hotel-Although situated on a very steep hill, the hotel is ten minutes slow stroll to Afandou proper, and a taxi back to the hotel is about 5-7 euros. The hotel is small enough to be easy to get around for older visitors, and the grounds are pleasant with flowers and trees around. Admittedly, the bathrooms could be more modern, and really the cleaners could do a bit of a better job in them, but the rooms are comfortable and some balconies are really large.
The all inclusive food is great, some Greek staples mixed with a good selection of meats, potato dishes and veg, you can have something different every night if you try. The moussaka, spanikopita and gyros are the best.
We don't usually go back to the same place more than once but I think we'll be booking again for next year.

Room Tip: Room 211 has a good size balcony that catches the sun.

We stayed here in early september and thought it was really good. Tassos and his sister are welcoming and friendly, nick the barman was a great laugh and the hotel was very pleasent, well maintained and clean. For a greek hotel, it was one of the best I have stayed in. The culture and standards here are different - if you like 5* british hotels stay somewhere else, simples.

The food was plentiful and good. Breakfast could have gone on a bit later but there were fresh poached eggs being cooked frequently, fresh bread and decent tea to be had. I didnt like the frankfurter style sausages and the bacon wasnt really that great but there were plenty of other things to choose from. The greek night food was really nice and lunch times were a little samey but great wraps and other bits on offer. The desserts in the evening are hit and miss, I really wasnt keen on the mousse but lots of it was good and the ice cream was really nice. The beer was good but the spirits and mixers were a bit weird, I didnt drink any after the first one!

The pool was clean and there plenty of spots to sit. The sunbeds were a bit rickety and could do with being replaced and it would ahve been nice to have had more terrace space as the grass was patchy and mainly bare soil. The gardens in general were nice though.

We had a room on the ground floor which was fine, didnt get much of a view though which was a shame. good sized terrace area and the room was a nice size and the mattresses were decent. The room had been recently refurbished which was good but the bathroom hadnt at that point. definitely needed a new one! The cleanliness was pretty poor in the bathroom unfortunately and there was crusted soap under the soap dish and mould in the corners of the bath. Unfortunately our shower bracket didnt hold the shower head straight so we had to hold it most of the time. The pressure was good though, but make sure you shower between 5pm and 7 otherwise the hot water runs out! There isnt really any hot water in the mornings.

On the first morning after we had arrived at 5am (terrible transfer journey - beware when booking wiht olympic as it takes two hours - we recommend getting a taxi for 35 euro) the cleaner was knocking at our door to clean the room at 8am - we had only been there a few hours! It would ahve been good if the hotel had communicated that with them so we could have had some sleep...

Fantastic views from the hotel bar terrace, it's quite small though so seating is limited.

Aandou is a nice small village, not a lot going on but enough if you're not there for parties. I wasnt impressed with faliraki, expensive and when we were there it was dead.

The beach is a half hour walk away, so is quite far in high heat but it is really nice, and quiet once you're there. The water was crystal clear and blue, you could see lots of little fishes!

The hill, well so many go on and on about that hill on here. OK it is steep, but its not too long. as long as you have some degree of fitness it is no problem. Think of it as working off all that food you eat in the all inclusive!

I would recommend staying here if you like all inclusive

Recently returned from a 2 week holiday in this most welcoming of hotels. The hotel is 2/3 star and represents good value in this sector of the market. Clean rooms (rather small bathroom! ) linen changed daily, good general areas with friendly staff only bettered by the owners who are on site and could not be more welcoming. Drinks and food of a good standard for this quality of hotel.

We will return

I was little bit afraid about our holiday. But it was a realy nice weak for us.
The true is, that room and especialy bathroom can be more clean (mold in the corners of bathroom :/ and the bathroom is realy small) and mattress in the bed are absolutly terrible - but, this is the only one wrong thing in all the hotel!
Hill - I have asthma and I did´t wind my self, when I walked up - so I think the hill must be ok for everybody :)
Food - fantastic ! I wanted take home the Chef ;)
All the staff in the hotel if working realy hard and still smiling and waiting to help you whatever you need. The pool in the hotel is not big, but in the hotel you can rent a car (it is cheap) and during few minutes, you can be at the beach - in October it was almost empty.
We bought cheap holiday in 3 star hotel and we get realy very good 3 star servis and enjoyed fantastic relax.

Just got home from a week at the Rodos Star Hotel in Afandou, Rhodes. All inclusive and worth
every penny. Short ride from the airport. Family run, and they are just the friendliest hotel keepers we have ever met. The owner Thassos came to the dining room every morning to say hi and ask if we needed anything. In a wonderful location on a hill with fantastic views all round. We had a large freshly decorated room ( number 306 ) on the 3rd floor with wonderful views of the 7km beach and surrounding hills, and a nice breeze as it was 25 degrees every day. Maids came every day to clean and to change towels. Food was great, varied, and plenty of it. The wines were very nice and the beer good. Special mention for Mimi who is always smiling, helpful, and very attentive to guests. Good size swimming pool with plenty of loungers. Lunch
is served here every day.
Afandou is charmingly Greek and the largest village on the island. Full of quaint little streets, restaurants and bars. Friendly locals. Excellent regular buses from the village square - ride to Rhodes Town 2.20 Euros. Yes, the hill up to the hotel is a little steep in places and would be a problem for someone disabled or very overweight, but we soon got used to it. No more than 12/15 mins walk. Often we took taxi back up from the rank in the square which cost a reasonable 5 Euros every time.
Lots of places to visit on the island, especially Faliraki and Lindos. Afandou beach itself is 7Km long and the most peaceful place. About 10/15 mins walk down from the hotel. Walk along a bit and you can have it all to yourselves. Some shingle, but they are removing the stones for building works bit by bit and whats left is nice sand.
In the evenings most guests just chilled on the terrace after dinner and we all used to sit and chat. They all seemed very happy with the hotel and staff. Some had been before and said they loved it. We did too.

Room Tip: We were on 3rd floor room 306 and it was perfect. Fab views, very quiet, and a cooling breeze.
