“Golf View Afandou”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2012

We booked with a budget on-line company and went all-inclusive. The room was not bad although the hot water was non-existant despite various people complaining. After several days the water was put on for short periods but still not good. The linen was clean and the towels were changed each day but were hard. The drink was very low alchohol but the two english sisters serving behind the bar were very friendly and always served with a smile! The food was low standard but there was always plenty. The english breakfast was fake bacon and hot dog style sausages though! The local beach is shingle so take a towel and shoes. At the end of the week I was smothered in bites although I think they were mossys so I can't really blame the hotel for that. At the start of the week the pool went very cloudy but after complaints to the Olympic rep the pool was looked at and by the end of the week was looking much better. Over all if you can afford better choose somewhere else but for low cost no frills it wasn't bad.

Having read the reviews, and got a great price for 10 day all inclusive holiday (£350 each) we went with an open mind - hoping only for a clean, comfortable room with edible food. We weren't disappointed.:) What is the matter with people?? From what we gathered no one at the hotel paid much different to us on price, but most still found something to moan about. Please, if you want 5 star surroundings stop being such a tight wad and pay for them, and leave the rest of us to enjoy our holidays without listening to continual moaning!!!

The staff were friendly and helpful - especially the cooks and the girls behind the bar (Hayley & Danielle, who as they were English had to endure a lot of the moaning, although they were only employed as bar staff!!) The rooms were cleaned daily, with clean sheets and towels, the food was plentiful with variety - no, there was not pizza or spaghetti or chips daily - it was good Greek food - you are in Greece! The hot water ran out, they work on solar panels, and when it's hot is it such a problem? Having been to various Greek islands all inclusive this was the norm :) The pool did however need attention as it was getting slightly green on the tiles, but it was the end of their season, they did however try to resolve this.

I can honestly say we had a fantastic holiday with a good base, full stomach, met some great people and had fantastic weather for the time of year. Recommend visiting Lindos & Rhodes Town easily accessible by bus near the hotel. THE ONLY THING THAT SPOILT OUR HOLIDAY WAS MOANING - please if you want a 5 star hotel PAY FOR ONE!!

We were here from 22nd September for two weeks, the weather was fabulous, the hotel however was not, the sheets and pillowcases on the bed were never ironed and the towels were old and grey and hard, this problem is easily solved new bed linen and towels would not cost a fortune and then the room would have been a lot more welcoming, nobody wants to sleep in a bed that looks like somebody has slept in it before. The food was OK, we all like Greek food and always found something to eat and the drinks were always readily available. We were there for the raw chicken night, but the next night as way of apology we were all treated to a bar-b-que night which was very good, plenty of food all cooked beautifully. The area around this hotel is well worth exploring and we all enjoyed finding our way around, Lindos, Anthony Quinn Bay, Rhodes town are well worth visiting, the Sports bar in Afandou is a good place to sit and watch the world go by. We found all the guests at this Hotel very friendly and we had a good holiday. Hot water available from eleven in morning until six at night, get your shower early.

Room Tip: Middle floor had full sized baths

I have been to Rhodes many times before & have stayed and visited various locations, but I have not been to resort of Afandou before. To be honest I wouldn't go back to this resort. We went All Inclusive & stayed between 26th Sept to 4th Oct 2012, it was end of season so wasn't expecting anything lively! Small family ran hotel. Our room was clean & given fresh towels daily although they were grey! The food was a little disappointing, especially if its your first time of experiencing Greek food, Breakfast was invariably lukewarm, hotel advertises English Breakfast but rarely was it, as no bacon served, think I had bacon (proper bacon not spam!) twice in 7 days, Lunches were OK not much wrong with this, the salad on offer differed from day to day depending on what they had left from day before. Evening meals, what can I say... we ate out! We heard that the hotel had sacked their 'chef' a week before we arrived, so meals were being cooked by the hotel owners daughter and member of the bar staff! The pool was OK/adequate it was clean, but could invest in more sun lounger cushions as otherwise it gets a little hard and uncomfortable on your back! Also garden area was a little scruffy and unkempt in places and the grass needed cutting. Our view was OK from front of hotel had a sea view overlooking golf course, separated by the main Rhodes road (yes noisy if balcony door left open if you trying to catch an afternoon siesta) and the builders yard to front aspect of hotel, we didn't find this out until we arrived at the hotel so that spoilt the view a little. We asked for A/C as first night sleep, what was left of it, was unbearable as very hot in evenings even at this time of year. The a/c was at an additional cost of 40€ a week, which was a fair price to pay and the difference between a restful night and no mosquito bites or no a/c leaving your balcony door open and being eaten alive by the morning! (if your sweet meat that is!) The tour operator's rep was very helpful in respect to keeping us informed when the airline 'Strategic Airways' who flew us to Rhodes were experiencing 'cash flow' problems, this was less than 48 hrs before we were due to go home. So to avoid any difficulties on our return journey, 'Olympic' pulled out of the contract with them and within that 48 hours had organised a new airline for our return journey. Transfers to/from hotel were a little long winded and took approx 2 hours! We had late night flights so were a little jaded by time we got to our beds. All in all unless you are on a budget and not fussy what you eat, I didn't think an All Inclusive would be value for money at this hotel.

Room Tip: Sea view would be preferable to an inland/pool view....get to see sun rise if you're an early ri...

My friend and I booked a weeks holiday, not expecting much except a clean bed and some decent food, but we didn't even get that! Bed linen was grey and unironed so we weren't sure if the bed had just been vacated. No welcome from staff and only hot water between 10 am and 6pm. Food was aweful and served from an area where dirty dishes were placed on a shelf above. The only snacks were popcorn or stale broken biscuits and pool/garden area littered with rubbish. Drinks so watered down they were unrecognisable as what they were pertaining to be. No entertainment on site or nearby so we were in bed by 8-30pm. Would NEVER go there again!

Room Tip: Go elsewhere!!!

We stayed here the first 2 weeks of September. You get what you pay for and that's true here.
It wasn't too bad, lack of meal choices, but it is a small hotel, drinks are practically non alcoholic, but if you are drinking all day at least it rehydrates.
The owner and staff are very helpful and want to do their best to ensure you have a good stay. Any problems were sorted out promptly and with a smile.
The rooms are kept very clean no complaints there.
The weather was great, the pool was also very clean, but there is a poor choice of sun beds, here is a tip, don't forget to pack a towel for use by the pool, there are none available in the hotel for that use, also there are only 6 sun loungers with cushions, so get out there early.
You will survive on the food, but at these prices you can take a 20 min stroll into afando and treat yourselves.
Take advantage of free shuttle bus and try the local beach, sun loungers are available to hire, and the golf club house is reasonably priced for drinks and a ham and cheese toastie.
Overall a budget experience, so fits the bill.
