“Decent option near Europa Park”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2013

Gaestehaus Schmidt is not your standard hotel, it is more of a guest house. If you go with that expectation, it is adequate for a stay near Europa Park.

The Good:
+ Less than 10 mins walk to Europa Park
+ Free parking
+ Free internet
+ Reasonably priced
+ Helpful staff
+ Largish rooms
+ Small swimming pool for a hot day (it was way too cold for us to even venture there)

The not so good:
- I had a child of 5yrs, but was charged for triple occupancy. Normally this would be free as child in parents' bed
- Sleeping comfort wasn't the best.
- Check in after 2pm only. However, you can leave your car behind at the parking and head out to Europa Park. The room will be ready when you return
- It wasn't the cleanest or the best maintained property that I came across while in Germany.

In summary, a good option if you want something basic near Europa Park at a reasonable price.

We stayed here for one night while visiting Europa Park. This visit to Europa Park was part of a long European vacation that included Paris, London, Greece and Germany. We were trying to watch our pennies, and based on the reviews of this hotel online, we decided to stay here for one night instead of one of the much nicer hotels inside the park. I hope we are not deceived by doctored pictures of a trailer-park ever again.

- You cannot check-in until 5:00pm!
- As we walked through the common areas to get to the front desk, we saw ash trays everywhere, filled to the brim with cigarette butts. Nice. All the railings on the balconies had bedding draped over them, airing out. I guess they don't wash the bedding between each guest. The patio furniture had bird poop on it. The tiny pool area was a cluttered, messy hodge podge of different furnitures.
- There was a children's play area on the second floor in a common area between the bedrooms. The furniture in there was stained, and everything looked very old and used. I would not allow my daughter to play in there or sit on the furniture.
- The towels were threadbare and worn - totally ratty.
- Our room was on the ground floor, and it was a warm day so we had to leave our windows open in order to keep the room as cool as possible. We were right next to the common area, and this was very noisy. Also, we killed several mosquitos in our room, and we all were bitten in the night.

The only positives I can report are good, reliable and free internet, and a close walking distance to the amusement park.

Would I stay here again - definitely not. Would I recommend it - definitely not.

We stayed one night here in June 2013. We hit a heat wave and Rust was 95 degrees. The staff was very friendly and we were given a quiet family room on the ground level. The beds are unique and hand crafted, but that said we had a small issue with the bars of the bed. One of them hit the middle of our back. We did manage to get a decent night of sleep by putting the comforter under us. It was a bit humid because of the hot temps. We weren't bothered by other guests or lights outside. Some rooms seem more exposed, but ours was fine. We had been excited by early reviews that said that Thai food was served there and was a big part of our decision to stay there. That wasn't the case, dinner that night was to be hamburgers and various appetizers. They don't serve Thai food. We chose to eat elsewhere. Breakfast was nice and had plenty of selection. Our kids enjoyed the pool, the slide was to hot for them to be able to use, but a having a place for them to cool down was nice. The free parking and access to the park are great. The hotel was a decent price, but the overall property could use just a bit of maintenance. I think this hotel is fine for someone visiting Europa park for a night. Best for couples, not as comfortable for families.

Pros:
-Walking distance off Europa park entrance
-Reasonable price
-good helpful staff
-free parking
-rooms have enough space for a family of 4 though not very large.
-free wifi
-cost includes breakfast

Cons:
- rooms are ready only after 1400 hrs, but u can park safely and leave ur belongings without a worry and head to the park
- bathrooms are dull
- the lunch/ dinner is average, but if u notice around, it probably is the best unless u want to drive into town

We had a good stay here... Most of the time being spent in the Park! I felt the beds to be a little uncomfortable... Probably because we came from a better guest house in Heidelberg.

Nevertheless would surely recommend to stay here as the staff is helpful and kind.

We stayed here for one night and visited Europa Park for 2 days. On arrival, we were allowed to park our car while we spent the day in the park. The staff were all incredibly friendly and helpful. Our room was spacious, clean, and quiet. The breakfast buffet was plenty. We enjoyed our stay very much!!

Stayed here with my teenage son and daughter due to proximity to Europa-park. I made the mistake of booking a treble room believing that I would be put in a room with three beds. This was not the case, the room having a double and a single bed. Manager helpful in resolving the problem.
The good points:
The hotel is less than ten minutes walk to Europa-Park. This was extremely useful in the middle of the afternoon as we were able to take a break from the queues at Europa-Park and return to a place of calm. The hotel also had its own parking. Ensure you get clear instructions of how to find it.
All the staf were friendly.
The rooms are clean and there were some nice touches.
Swimming pool - Extremely small but served its purpose on a hot afternoon!!!!
The downside.
The room we were in was accessed by an outside metal stair case which was also used by other guests to get to their room. Unfortunately this made the room extremely noisy as everyone had to walk past our room.
The door to the room had frosted glass with no blind or curtain. No issue of privacy. However the door let light in especially since immediately outside was a light which turned on every time anyone walked up the stairs and passed our room. The noise and the light did not make for a good night's sleep. This would be the main reason why we would not stay again.
The breakfast was adequate. We did not sample the Thai food in the evening.
In summary. Great location. Helpful manager. Clean room. Draw back the noise of the outside metal stairwell and the lack of curtains meant an interrupted night sleep with the regular flitting on and off of the outside light.
