Owner description: The Jurisdiction of Saint-Emilion (including the town and the territory of the 8 villages united under the authority of the medieval Jurade) was listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage in 1999 to preserve, restore and share this outstanding heritage! Covered in vines and bordered with rivers, along woody slopes and picturesque roads, the Jurisdiction of Saint-Emilion stretches out over 75 km² around a particularly well-preserved medieval town and is the ideal place to stay. Only 30 minutes from Bordeaux and 1h from Bergerac or Périgueux, Saint-Emilion is the perfect starting point to tour around the vineyards of Bordeaux and the Perigord district. Legend has it that the town bears the name of a Breton monk that performed miracles while living an exemplary life. In order to retire from social life, he settled in 750 in a natural grotto, which can still be visited nowadays in the heart of the town!

“Not Too Helpfu”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 14, 2012

This was our first trip to St. Emilion. We stopped at the tourist office as we first arrived. The person at the counter was not very friendly - despite speaking to her in my broken Canadian French. I felt she was more interested in selling tickets to tour the local facilities then helping learn about where we were.

“Competent but not overly friendly”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 13, 2012

The title says it all but Tripadvisor insists on 360 characters...
The information provided did the job, no smiles to be expected despite our very friendly questioning and at least attempts to communicate in French. Our guide was, however, very friendly and humorous.

“Just give us a map!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2012

Maps of the town were hidden under the counter, presumably so that staff could try to sell you tours instead. A bit annoying.

“Super Service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2012

Everything you want to see, do, and learn about Juridiction Saint Emilion starts here. This place is continuously busy so come early and book your tours and some of the wine school events so that you do not miss out. We did most of the tours they offer and they were all interesting, informative, and an appropriate duration. Bring walking shoes! They have information and maps and guides for varied interests. We recommend the bikes for a ride in the countryside.
