“Lovely B&B!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2013

We spent 2 nights here in May. 4 The owners were lovely and provided us with info about the area and helped us book wine tours throughout Saint Emilion. We chose to eat at the house during our first evening and the food was delicious! The house sits just in-front of a local vineyard and the view is spectacular. I highly recommend La Petite Madeline for a relaxing, local experience in the Saint Emilion area.

We stayed in this beautiful farmhouse surrounded by vineyards for 4 nights. The rooms, breakfasts, dinners and company were all superb. Extraordinarily friendly and generous hosts. Couldn't recommend it higher!

My husband, 11month old, brother-in-law, sister-in-law and I stayed at this wonderful B&B for 3 nights 2 wks ago. I'm truly in shock at the negative reviews. First, Veronique and Thor were absolutely wonderful hosts. They exemplified hospitality in EVERY way. They allowed us to prepare our dinner in their kitchen and encouraged us to make ourselves at home by also using the shared living room (shared by guests, not by the family--unlike the experience of previous reviews). Veronique and Thor were graciously accommodating, but not over the top and nosy. We also had one of Thor's fabulous dinners! This dinner was one of the best dinners we've ever had in France (and we've been to France about 5 different times)! We only wish were able to have his dinners every night!
Yes, the breakfast was primarily pastries and cereal. Hello, it's Europe, and since we now live in Europe I can confidently say that MOST B&Bs do not offer American style breakfasts. Enjoy it, it's part of the charm of Europe.
If you're hesitant to book based on negative reviews (admittedly like I was), I would encourage you to stay here because it was a wonderful experience and you're sure to enjoy your stay!
Oh, and ask for a room with a view of the vineyards....the best!

Room Tip: Do yourself a favor and have one (or more) of Thor's dinners!

Veronique and Thor are wonderful hosts. From the moment we started communicating with them via email to the day we left their beautiful home, they were very attentive and took care of our every need.
The B&B is absolutely beautiful. All the rooms are tastefully done up. Thor is an excellent chef so it's definitely worth having dinner in the house on one night. For breakfast, you get a selection of breads with a variety of tasty homemade jams.
The property is a 10 minute bike ride from the main village and Thor provided us with complimentary bikes to explore the country side.
We had a lovely time sitting in the courtyard every evening, drinking the local wine and talking to the other guests.
Overall, it was a wonderful experience and we can't wait to go back!

Room Tip: Ask for a room that faces the vineyards. :)

We just spent a week at this wonderful B & B. Our hosts Veronique and Thor were fantastic, offering us assistance with directions, ways to avoid traffic and great recommendations for Chateaus to visit. Thor is also an excellent chef and his dinners are not to be missed. For breakfast they serve the most wonderful home made jam's, yummy. Our room was very comfortable and overlooked the vineyards, quite and peaceful. Great stay, thank you Veronique and Thor!

My husband and I stayed 4 nights at La Petite Madeleine and couldn't have started our Summer holidays better. Veronique and Thor Inge were so helpful and hospitable - they offered us a lot of advice on which chateaus to visit, and helped us plan our stay really well. Definitely recommend having dinner at least once while you're there, Thor is an amazing cook - smoked duck breast and goats cheese was our starter - absolutely delicious! There is also a great restaurant about 5 min walk away in a relatively new chateau, which is convenient given the 3km into town. On other evenings we had a little picnic in their courtyard - and were very kindly supplied with crockery and glasses.

We didn't have a car, and took a taxi from nearby Libourne Station (about 20euro), but happily wandered around the neighbourhood, and made good use of the bicycles that they will loan for free to access the town of St Emilion.

Breakfast was delicious each day also!

It was nice to welcome you at La Petite Madeleine. We can remember that you learnt in Australia how to make beautiful macarons and we hope that Saint Emilion inspired you with its special macaron recipie.

We stayed in this B&B for 6 nights. Beautiful B&B in a lovely location set amongst the vineyards of St. Emilion. Our hosts, Veronique and Thor Inge couldn't have been nicer. The property is approx 3 kms from the town, a couple of minutes if you are driving. It is easily accesible by bicycle (which were supplied by the B&B free of charge). Room was very clean and comfortable.
The St. Emilion train station is also close by and from here we took trips to Bordeaux and Bergerac.
Breakfast was very relaxed with no time pressure and the home made jams were excellent.
Dinner is also offered and is highly recommended ( we availed of this on two nights and were not disappointed ) or a picnic in the courtyard is another option.
