A couple we met at the Marriot Surf Club recommended Anna-Maria's. I never take recommendations on Italian unless it is from someone in Boston, Providence, New York or San Francisco. Luckily our couple were Boston College alums and we tood their suggestion.
Funny start as the taxi cab driver drops us off in front of the residence that serves as the restaurant. He waited while one of the two waiters came out the front door to let us through the gate. A short walk around to the back revealed 10-12 tables set for dinner, flowers, and a fountain. We were only the second set of diners and were told the table was on for the evening. We had been told the meal could take some time because everything is cooked to order. Our entire experience only took 90 unrushed minutes.
Our party of four ordered cocktails (2), 2 glasses of a simple cabernet, fried calimari shared by two, and two caprese salads. For dinner we enjoyed the absolute best lasagna I have ever tasted, an excellent dish of crepes stuffed with cheese and spinach and a shrimp and spaghetti dish which my wifre devoured. We also order a bottle of the same cabernet with dinner. I was asked by our waiter if I liked eggplant and replied I did. He had the chef add an ultra thin slice of eggplant to the lasagna which meshed perfectly with the pasta, meat, and melt in your mouth cheese inside.
Everyting was perfect. The service was just attentive enough. My partners were too stuffed to order desert or cappachino so I can't comment on those but hope to when we go again on our next Aruba trip.
The bill for appetizers, cocktains, wine (galsses and bottle) and 4 entrees was $250 before tip. This meal in Providence would have been north of $300+.
Finally, at the end of our meal our waitewr called us a cab and waited and chatted with us out front until the cab arrived.
Anna-Marie's will be a regular stop on our future trips.
