I usually don't write reviews but because I found it so hard to decide on which hotel to stay at the dead sea, I'm providing a few details from our stay. First, Herods isn't the best hotel in the world but it's not the worst either. In fact, it's probably the best hotel in the dead sea area. Having stayed at the Meridien before, I would pick Herods over that. The best parts are the pool, beach and food. The worst parts are the room (paper thin doors and walls, air conditioning that doesn't work well, a door to the bathroom which is see through and no door on the shower) and the front desk (very unorganized and no plan for how much to charge for a room, which rooms to rent and why). The staff tries very hard to please, When you ask for something, they do their best to address it. The problem seems to be with management. In fact, the management seems to be non-existent. We know that the hotels in the dead sea area all have issues. So, if you want to choose one, I would go with Herods and just keep your eyes open for the problems we've listed.

Room Tip: make sure AC is working well and either choose a room on a high floor as they've just been redon...

I loved the location as it is one of only 2 hotels in the area with direct access to the beach without having to cross the main road. Gardens, pool and beach area are fantastic. The hotel is in total lack of management especially arriving at the reception!! We had to wait for our room for over 2 hours! This hotel might be a 5 star for Israeli standards but outside of Israel it would be a 3star!I wanted to meet the hotel manager but was told he was in meetings!! I finally got good professional assistance only from Mrs Ziv Bach who really took the time to make us feel welcome and constantly looked out for us.
The DELUXE rooms are in a poor state and need to be refurbished. Food was well presented and fresh. Hotel is crowded and noisy during the weekend but calm and quiet during the week. They need to gear up for overseas tourists and improve their manners and service.....

Room Tip: ground floor rooms are refurbished...but more expensive!?!?!?

Coming after a long journey expecting to arrive, get to our room, relax and enjoy what we paid for but instead find the deputy head of the '5 star hotel' screaming viscously at everyone which included staff and customers very loudly. We have paid top rates (no local deals) and expected to be served accordingly to what we paid which may I say again we did not spend cheaply on this hotel the DEPUTY head(Ismaill) was extremely rude , angry, loud and aggressive throughout the whole of our stay the the herrods to guests and staff. Our rooms were not ready on time on arrival, tables in the dinning room were never ready to eat, workers and staff were very stressed all the time. Also caught Ismaill picking food that fell of the sides from dishes in the dinning room and throwing them back in with his bare hands, not very professional or hygienic if you ask me! The Receptionist on the phone was also very rude and impolite. It was busy season for them but they were not prepared for the amounts of customers they would have, this type of behaviour is not suitable for a 5* hotel and a serious reality check is needed for them.

Most of the hotel has been refurbished, except for the standard rooms- first 3 floors, so you should try to avoid these. Other than that, amenities and facilities are pretty nicely designed, especially the main pool and Spa.

Problems- dishes were often not clean enough and even filthy at times. Meals have a large variety and the breakfast is excellent. Dinner is a matter of tastes, I personally don't like special kinds of meat but I'm sure many would like it.

I've heard the employees are often mistreated by the management and thus don't show up for work unexpectedly. At one time, I ordered a simple sandwich at the lobby's bar and it took more than 30 minutes so I simply walked a way. The reason for that was that there was One employee only in charge of waitering, bartending, serving and cleaning tables. All because there was no one to help him out.

All in all a good hotel even though some downfalls cloud its luxuriousness.

The communal areas of this hotel and refurbished areas are amazing, but 2nd & 3rd floor room was very poor standard. Stunning location and amazing food, if you can afford it have a suite room with private pool, pure bliss

Room Tip: Make sure it's a refurbished one. If you can go to a suite -room 014 etc, then well worth it.

In our list of hotels for our pilgrimage tour this hotel was listed as the 5 stars Sheraton Moriah Plaza Hotel, Dead Sea. The location of this hotel is really perfect and excellent as it is really next to the beach of the Dead Sea. We went to enjoy the Dead Sea very early the next morning and we were provided with the necessary amenities and showers facilities like towels accordingly. The breakfast was also full of choices. Thus nothing to complain than thumbs up and being grateful .......
