“Step back in time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2012

This place is a 3rd generation family owned business and definitely a bit on the "rustic" side but thats the charm. Ritz Carlton it is not, but if you are looking for a place that beckons back to the 1950's - this is it. The cabins and A frames are your best bet.

And the bar is one of the coolest bars you'll ever step foot in - anywhere. The bar is a living museum for all the formula one races from nearby Watkins Glen Race track ( and the bartenders are more than happy to point out the cool stuff on the walls). For you micro brew fans - there's is made on premise and is really good especially the "Blonde".

The restaurant serves great comfort food - try the lamb shish kabobs for dinner.

A great value for your $$ and a nostalgic trip back into time.

Room Tip: Go for the older cabins or the log cabin or A frames for multiple quests.

This is the epitome of the Finger Lakes region. Rustic, friendly and relaxed with dining that will exceed your expectations. PLUS you just walk across the street into the Glen!

We stayed in one of the older cabins since we were had a small dog with us. I'm always pleased to find dog friendly properties so points on that front! While the older cabins aren't for everyone, it was just our style. I loved the country vibe on the grounds, the screen door to what felt like our little front lawn and the rustic cozy atmosphere in the cabin. Everything worked fine that needed to as far as water and water pressure and electricity. There was no air conditioner and I kind of wish i had packed a small fan, but there was only one stuffy night and it cooled down as we slept. Most of the cabins seemed to have an AC unit though. Had it been a cooler time of year there was a radiated space heater in the cabin. Although we only ate breakfast at the lodge once, it was good, and worth mentioning that the lodge's restaurant was a really popular dinner place with a good bar inside too. The ability to just walk for free into the south entrance of the Watkins Glen State Park was a nice added bonus. If you a bigger people just make sure you request a cabin with a bigger bed as ours was small, but fine for us. Likewise, if the AC thing is important to you, make sure you request a newer cabin with a window unit. I'd recommend the Seneca Lodge for anyone...cabins were great and clean, and the motel would be fine as well, just no dogs are allowed in those rooms. Also, it's a very short drive down the hill to the main street of Watkins Glen so the location was good too. If i ever go to the area again, however, I'd want to stay in a lakefront cottage as quality lake access wasn't that easy. Just throwing that out there because i wish I had known, but for the price this was ideal and couldn't be beat!!!

We recently rented one of the old cabins at Seneca Lodge. The price was right for the spur of the moment booking on our way to see some racing at the Glen. The older cabins have seen their day and are soon to be replaced. Consider these about two steps above camping. Two steps because it has a toilet and shower. No TV. No air. The furniture was a hodge podge of old pieces well worn from years of use. To say the least the place was not much to look at. The bedding was clean and towels were fresh. I've read some mentions here that shampoo was not provided in bath. Big deal. Who doesn't travel with shampoo? The overall grounds with cabins reminded me of the old roadside motels from days gone by. The restaurant menu is somewhat outdated. This place still has a salad bar! Speaking of bar... what campground has five craft beers on tap. Overall the staff is friendly and the Seneca is cheap and clean. Take a trip back in time and check it out, but it's not for everyone

My wife and I have been staying at Seneca lodge since the mid 1990's usually twice a year - once at the July 4th holiday and second, at the September Grand Prix vintage event. I couldn't think of a place I'd rather be at. I count the days to the Watkins Vintage event that the town throws each year (since the mid 1990's) in September. Thank God for Watkins Glen and Seneca Lodge.

Room Tip: The cabins are "rustic" and, as such, cost less than the motel rooms. Any motel room is a...

Seneca Lodge is in a great location above the city of Watkins Glen and at the middle entrance to the State Park.
But everything about this place is like a walk back in time. Nothing wrong with that as the prices are about the same as you probably got charged in the 70's allowing for inflation. Some of the cabins haven't been touched since then either, so check what you are getting before moving in. It's a very basic motel and cabin Lodge.

The food is likewise a step back in time, from breakfast to dinner the menu is strictly 70's diner complete with truck stop coffee.

But the staff were very friendly, it was cheap and clean. If you are going to Watkins Glenn race track and on a budget, this is the place to stay.

Room Tip: Take a refurbished motel room if it's available

Man, this reminded me of the days when I stayed in really cheap motels in the boonies. Booked via the hotel by phone, for 76$. You must call to reserve, as they do not have email, and they don't have a 1-800 number. We stayed there because the event we attended was there.

This is an old lodge and it shows. The front desk reminded me of those movie scenes with cheap motels. Keys with big dangly key chain. The room reaked of musty humidity, and was appointed with 1970s furniture. The TV was an old CRT with bad image. The 2 double beds were OK. The bathroom reminded me of my grandma's bathroom decor...hurts the eyes. The towels were old, no shampoo. Saving grace was free wifi throughout the complex.

The event attended was catered by the lodge, and the food was quite decent. There is a restaurant during the high season, but was not open given we were almost at closing of the lodge for winter. There are many dining options close by.

The reason I gave a higher note was the presence of a newly opened brewpub on premises, offering tasty brews. The decor is pure woodsmen kitsch, but it adds to the cachet.

An interesting experience.
