I came to Watkins Glen to spend a few days at the track there. I was looking for a straightforward hotel/motel lodging, not a B&B because I would be up and out every day before 7:00 am. In doing my research here on TripAdvisor it seems there are 3 classes of accommodations: super low end ("Don't stay here unless you're drunk" was one review), mid-range (including this property), and the newly opened Watkins Glen Harbor Hotel. The latter was out of my price range and the low end places were either booked or consistently rated poor. I opted for the Longhouse. The room I had was very clean, bathroom dated but spotless. Everything worked, including an in-room refrigerator which was welcome. The two double beds were comfortable enough, though if you want firm beds you might be disappointed. The place sits up on a hill along Rt 14 with decent views of the lake. They have an in-ground pool which looked clean, but I didn't use it (it was October!).
One disappointment: the free continental breakfast was a joke. Mini-donuts, a few muffins or stale bagels, juice and coffee – none of which looked that good. It was "served" in the tiny lobby of their office with nowhere to sit. I suppose you take it back to your room, but still. Even boxed cereals would have made this a more filling and reasonable breakfast. I opted to buy some food and have it in my room each morning.
The people I talked to there (2) were friendly and helpful and it was a quick 2 miles or so into downtown. My room was quiet enough but you could hear people on both sides, so if you get some loud neighbors you'll know. My biggest objection once I stayed there were the hefty room costs with tax and fees. At almost $500 for 3 nights, I would have hoped for more (comfort, quiet, breakfast, etc.)
