I came to Watkins Glen to spend a few days at the track there. I was looking for a straightforward hotel/motel lodging, not a B&B because I would be up and out every day before 7:00 am. In doing my research here on TripAdvisor it seems there are 3 classes of accommodations: super low end ("Don't stay here unless you're drunk" was one review), mid-range (including this property), and the newly opened Watkins Glen Harbor Hotel. The latter was out of my price range and the low end places were either booked or consistently rated poor. I opted for the Longhouse. The room I had was very clean, bathroom dated but spotless. Everything worked, including an in-room refrigerator which was welcome. The two double beds were comfortable enough, though if you want firm beds you might be disappointed. The place sits up on a hill along Rt 14 with decent views of the lake. They have an in-ground pool which looked clean, but I didn't use it (it was October!).

One disappointment: the free continental breakfast was a joke. Mini-donuts, a few muffins or stale bagels, juice and coffee – none of which looked that good. It was "served" in the tiny lobby of their office with nowhere to sit. I suppose you take it back to your room, but still. Even boxed cereals would have made this a more filling and reasonable breakfast. I opted to buy some food and have it in my room each morning.

The people I talked to there (2) were friendly and helpful and it was a quick 2 miles or so into downtown. My room was quiet enough but you could hear people on both sides, so if you get some loud neighbors you'll know. My biggest objection once I stayed there were the hefty room costs with tax and fees. At almost $500 for 3 nights, I would have hoped for more (comfort, quiet, breakfast, etc.)

We are with the North Country PT Cruisers club, and we stayed with three other sets of club friends at the Longhouse Manor and Motel this past weekend. None of us could stop talking about how absolutely fabulous this place is. The service was friendly, professional and detailed. The rooms at the manor were simply magnificent. We had to spend our first night down at the motel part (we decided to add an extra day at the last minute), and that too, was comfortable, clean, spacious, modern and nicely decorated. When we checked in for the one night in the motel part before moving up to the manor, they told us that we could just pack our bags, and leave them in the room and THEY would bring them up to our new room. They could not have been any nicer. We stayed here four years ago, and had the same fabulous experience. I'm so glad we were finally able to make it back (for another PT Cruiser car show) I have often said since our original stay in 2005, that if I were to inherit ten-billion dollars tomorrow, and money was no object, that I would probably still never find a place to stay that I would love as much as I do the Longhouse Manor! If you're contemplating booking with them, do yourself a favor and make the reservation! They are the best! Friendly staff, beautiful rooms, gorgeous view! We can not recommend this fabulous, magical place highly enough.

While I was some what hesitant to stay here after reading some of these reviews, I took a chance and made a reservation. It is now clear to me that most people only take the time to write a review if they are disgruntled. So, I wanted to be sure to share my experience.

I have to say that everything about my experience at this motel was great. The room was fine. The staff was friendly. The owner, Jim who has been really spoken poorly about here, was absolutely wonderful! We had a problem with our credit card and he was patient and understanding with us while we got it sorted out.

I would certainly stay here again and hope to do so again next summer.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Longhouse Lodge. What a comfortable place to spend part of our vacation. This motel was so clean and comfortable, and it added such a nice bit of relaxation to our trip. We found ourselves really enjoying the pool while overlooking Seneca Lake. We have read some nasty reviews on this site about this place, and I couldn't disagree more!! The staff was kind and considerate and really went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. To cap off our evenings there, we always took advantage of the motel's location just a couple of miles out of town and sat in the rocking chairs and enjoyed what cool breezes there were on those July evenings. And in the morning, we enjoyed the free breakfast! What could be better? I would highly recommend this place to anyone.

I was very happy with my one-night mid-winter stay at the Longhouse Lodge Motel. I am picky and my room and bathroom were very clean. I had all the basic amenities I needed, including plenty of towels, full cable TV, iron, hairdryer, soap/shampoo, alarm clock, etc. The office manager was friendly over the phone and happily accomodated my late night arrival when I called ahead. The bed was comfortable and even had a pillowtop mattress. It was 4 degrees outside but the heat in my room still worked perfectly. The room had a few nice decorative country touches too. This hotel is NOT a modern highrise chain hotel (like a Hilton) or a quaint Victorian bed & breakfast. This IS a clean and friendly small-town motel conveniently located near Seneca Lake and Watkins Glen, NY that offers an excellent value for the money. This hotel is now on my "short list" for next time I visit the area.
