Having read the existing reviews, they contradicted each other so much that we found it hard to believe that they related to the same hotel. On the positive side, the hotel is in a charming old building in a central location, and the swimming pool was very welcome in the hot weather. However we did not find the atmosphere welcoming: the man in charge was not exactly rude, but he was distinctly off-hand. The building was not well maintained and is in need of modernisation and refurbishment: the carpet on the grand staircase was loose in places, which was dangerous. The locking arrangements were archaic: we had to unlock and re-lock first the front door, and then the outer gate into the street. It is not acceptable to expect guests to go through this procedure every time they want to go out, and this would create a real hazard in case of fire. The food was mediocre: breakfast consisted of a tiny stick of bread, a small croissant and a piece of cake with fruit juice and coffee. There was no fruit or yoghurt. The restaurant was either closed or fully booked, and it was only on the last of our five days there that we were able to have dinner at the hotel. It was not really worth the wait. They made a mistake in our order, which was corrected without apology. My cassoulet consisted of beans and very little else. This hotel has great potential, but needs a complete change of management before this can be realised.
