“Unwelcoming”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 27, 2011

Having read the existing reviews, they contradicted each other so much that we found it hard to believe that they related to the same hotel. On the positive side, the hotel is in a charming old building in a central location, and the swimming pool was very welcome in the hot weather. However we did not find the atmosphere welcoming: the man in charge was not exactly rude, but he was distinctly off-hand. The building was not well maintained and is in need of modernisation and refurbishment: the carpet on the grand staircase was loose in places, which was dangerous. The locking arrangements were archaic: we had to unlock and re-lock first the front door, and then the outer gate into the street. It is not acceptable to expect guests to go through this procedure every time they want to go out, and this would create a real hazard in case of fire. The food was mediocre: breakfast consisted of a tiny stick of bread, a small croissant and a piece of cake with fruit juice and coffee. There was no fruit or yoghurt. The restaurant was either closed or fully booked, and it was only on the last of our five days there that we were able to have dinner at the hotel. It was not really worth the wait. They made a mistake in our order, which was corrected without apology. My cassoulet consisted of beans and very little else. This hotel has great potential, but needs a complete change of management before this can be realised.

I love it when you can see the owner wrote the reviews...went here to check out some rooms for friends...faulty towers...looks like the ritz compared to this place..run down is not the word..nasty nasty nasty..and that's just the owner...the bed linen was dirty, the whole place is stuck in the 1970s, bathrooms were less than clean and the place smelt like damp...YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED..this place is the pits..

We stayed here in July 2011 for 3 nights to attend a wedding anniversary celebration nearby.

The good bits first: the place does have a certain charm. The frount courtyard is lovely and would be a terrific place to sit and avoid the heat of the day in summer while enjoying a cool drink. The main stone staircase is a real stunner.

Unfortunately it is all downhill from there. I'll start with the rooms - stuck squarely in 1992, they are tired with cramped bathrooms.

Monsieur seems to run the place solo - it is very sad. His heart clearly is not in it - we assumed there had been a wife/partner who had left him. When you wanted something monsieur was polite and obliging enough, but you could see he didn't want to be there. infact the place is for sale - we saw an advertisment for the hotel in an Immobilier across the street. There were a few staff around in the morning helping with servicing the rooms, but all front of house was done by monsieur.

Monsieur is also boardering on obsessive regarding locking the place - you have to lock the front door as you leave, then the the gate. This is during the day, mind, not just at night. Woe betide you if you forget and leave the front door open! This is not the ingredient for a welcoming place.

Then there is the general upkeep of the place - the carpark and the pool area look downright dowdy.

There are better places to stay in Condom. Go find them and avoid disappointment.

For once I didn't consult Trip Advisor before booking my trip, and honestly based on the other reviews I would have avoided this hotel, which would have been a huge mistake!
The hotel is calm, situated on a quiet street in lovely Condom.
The rooms are wonderful, with a charm that you can only hope to expect in this area!! Our room was reacently renovated, as were several others. The towels, sheets and in room amenites were new and clean. The pool, refeshing, and well maintained, was a welcome surprise under the blazing sun! The sunbeds, comfortable, and no need to take my own beach towel, pool towels were provided!
The owner greated us warmly and shared with us his knowledge of the region and its wines. He was so helpful in guiding us to the right vineyards and local sights, altough we really didn't want to leave the pool!!
All in all a wonderfull weekend at Les Trois Lys, and I can't imagine why there are so many negative reviews on this site!!

I stayed here for work for a few weeks, and thoroughly enjoyed the stay. This isn't a typical hotel, it feels more like your own private home than a hotel. The rooms are traditional, and the charm of the building has been maintained.
The location is great, in the center of Condom, but its a sleepy town so be sure to book a restaurant that is open on the weekdays!

Room Tip: Ask for a refurbished room

Rude, and arrogant from the start. They had no record of our reservation and even though the hotel was empty, they acted like our arrival was a major inconvenience. Breakfast wasn't included, so we asked for a coffee in our room. They said it was prohibited. So we asked if we could drink at a shaded table by the pool: also prohibited. Outrageously expensive for the worst service I've ever had in a hotel. They made us feel unwelcomed and uncomfortable from the start. On the final morning, we asked for a coffee, and they refused as it was 20 mins before check out time and they didn't want us to be late checking out!! These people should not be working in the hospitality industry. We feel like We've been robbed.

At best the rooms could be described as shabby chic - but at worst it was tired. The bed was described as a big bed which turned out to be just a very hard double with a slightly grubby bedspread. The room was also very small - I was relieved we were only staying 2 nights. We asked for an iron but they didn't have an ironing board! There were leaves in the pool and it hadn't been cleaned. Finally, there wasn't a kettle in the room. In short, I wouldn't recommend it!
