Great Location, great hosts. lovely quiet hotel, equipped with modern facilities & amenities. Sylvia and David Allett, transplanted British folk, are delightful, attentive hosts who are quite knowledgeable about this area and are happy to advise visitors about touring.
We spent 8 relaxing, enjoyable nights taking all our meals at their restaurant. A plus is Sylvia’s marvelous cooking.
A few km down the main road from the lively, pretty Bastide town of Mirepoix, Auberge du Balestié sits in lovely quiet countryside with spectacular views of the pogs and snow-capped Pyrenees in the distance. We especially liked its central location, close to many important beautiful & historical sights: Foix, Underground River of LaBouiche, Montségur, Grotte de Niaux, Parc de la Pre-Histoire, Camon, Carcassonne , even St Lizier in the Couserans.
The grounds of the Auberge are an oasis and a delight to return to after a full day of touring; it was so lovely to take an aperitif on the patio and look out onto the snowcapped Pyrenees! We would not hesitate to return; excellent value.
Tourists without a good grasp of the French need not hesitate to make a booking.
We had a room with a view of the Pyrenees mtns in the distance....magnificent!
