“Superb restaurant and hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 30, 2013

I have just come back from a visit to this wonderful hotel. It is located in an ancient and breathtaking building in the very pretty town of Mirepoix. Very high ceilings, gorgeous beams and old tiled floors abound. The decor is tasteful and the room was spacious and comfortable (a suite on the first floor). No effort was spared to make us comfortable. Dinner was outstanding - we had the Menu Degustation and enjoyed every one of the courses. The food was exquisite and beautifully presented. It was a birthday celebration which I had spoken to the hotel about beforehand and they surprised us with a stunning strawberry birthday cake which was divine. We had the feeling that they wanted to take excellent care of us and to give us a memorable time. They totally succeeded. I will be back. Superb.

Room Tip: Suite 103 has a very large bedroom and comfortable salon where we decided to have our pre-dinner dri...

We came across Relais Royal on tripadvisor and decided to stay in Mirepoix which originally wasn't on our travel agenda as the hotel and area sounded lovely. We were not disappointed. We liked it so much we came back again on our way back to Spain. We stayed in two different rooms. Both were wonderful, but the first was especially charming. I don't remember the room number, but it was the one with the giant handicap access shower and amazing jacuzzi tub complete with changing color lights. Mirepoix is delightful and close to many wonderful sites including Montsegur. Relais Royal was fabulous and Gerwin was very helpful--HIGHLY recommend this lovely hotel.

We stayed here in late July for a few days and thought it was perfect for our break. We hired bikes and cycled around the countryside, sat by the (small) pool, enjoyed the spacious well decorated rooms with complimentary minibar, great friendly service in a beautiful medieval village. The food was excellent and as a veggie when even the amuse bouche are veggie I know I am in a place with a superb attention to detail !!

We were very much in need of some relaxation, and we could not have chosen a better hotel than the Relais Royal. The service was outstanding, the hotel impeccable and beautiful. It was so quiet, we thought no one was there but saw guests coming and going on several occasions...and the restaurant was always full. No wonder, though, with the delicious meal we enjoyed. I definitely recommend it!

Mirepoix, at the foot of the Pyrenees in southern France is a charming 14th century village. The picturesque town square is surrounded by half timbered houses with a beautiful church in the centre. We enjoyed our time in the village and our stay at the Relais Royal.

From the minute you arrive at this hotel you know that you are in a special place. The hotel has been built/remodeled with the loving care of 2 charming Dutchmen, Rogier and Gerwin. Our room had the ambiance of an historic home with all the modern facilities. The king bed was very comfortable, the storage adequate, there was a computer desk and flat screen TV, a nice seating area and a butlers table with complementary fruit, water, wine and snacks (which were replenished each day).

The bathroom with double sinks, spa bath and double walk in shower was furnished with lovely toiletries. There was a small pool and a lovely outdoor eating area as well as a dining room. We had one dinner there and it was a lovely degustation dinner paired with appropriate wines. The service was faultless and the food was delicious as well as beautifully presented.

Parking is usually a problem in historic town centres but we actually did not have an issue with it. We were able to unload our suitcases and then move the car a few blocks away. We always found free parking when we moved the car.

We loved it here! Our room is appropriated with everything we could need -- right down to the Nespresso machine. The bathroom had too many accoutrements for us to decipher. lol. We loved that our room had a wall of exposed beams and sky high ceilings. The dining and living rooms were plush and cozy. The poolside & front patio were perfect for apéro or just lazing in the sun (or shade of the umbrellas). Breakfast is over the top copious with something to suit every morning palette. And the pièce de resistance? It must be Rogier and Gerwin, the owners and hosts, who are as charming and accommodating as their lovely property.
We just love this place!

Room Tip: We loved the Deluxe room w/ the exposed beams. I can't say whether the other rooms have that fea...

My mother and I booked a suite at this hotel as a special girls' getaway. Booked for being dog friendly, and in a great location, we enjoyed a lovely couple of days exploring Mirepoix and the surrounding areas. After a full day exploring, the highlight was most definitely returning to this wonderfully restored house in the middle of the town. The courtyards are an oasis of calm, the perfect place for a coffee at the beginning of the day or glass of champagne to kick the evening off; our suite was perfect with tall windows, oodles of space and a lovely large bath and there are endless little touches, including the yellow chairs in the hall - a particular favourite of mine - to enjoy and marvel at.

All this, and I haven't yet mentioned the food... Rogier is a master when it comes to putting a delicious menu together. I am going to be dreaming of the desert for a long time to come.

Thank you to Gerwin, Rogier and Toupie, the lovely labrador, for making our break so special. I hope to be able to return before long.

Room Tip: We chose a suite on a special advance booking. The room was very quiet and restful but also had easy...
