Katara Lodge is simply fabulous. With stunning views of the rift valley, even from the bathtub, this place blows me over. Furthermore, the staff are very friendly, and speaks good English. It was fun to be able to banter with them... makes one feel more like a guest in a home, rather than a paying guest in a hotel. Food is great and Anna gives wonderful advice on the itinerary.
So this place scores big for me... in terms of romantic accommodation, great food and fabulous people... staff and owner alike.
furthermore, being outside of the park itself is an advantage. It is very near to the highway that leads to several entrances into the park. More importantly there are stretches where you can see animals without having to go inside. Thus being outside means one can plan a 24 hour park entrance where going on the kininga channel is a must, and going on a drive outside to see some stunning landscape plus a variety of animals.
