“true gem in the heart of Stonetown”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 6, 2013

We stayed only one night in this hotel and it's a true regret! Next time in Zanzibar we want to stay one week there!
Located inside the old city, be prepared to carry your luggage for 150 meters, as the cab cant drive there.
The hotel is very well integrated in a modest street, but once you enter, it's a rare find! Charming and laidback atmosphere, friendly staff, india meets Marocco meets Iran interior design... You feel being the guest of a very bohemian sultan, or Hemingway!
We had the Capuccino Suite for the night: Nice antic furniture, soft glazy and colorful concrete, little stairs to go in the bathroom, antic details all around...Really romantic! and cozy bed!
The wall are VERY thick, so no noise from the hotel, but there is a school next door, and you can forget sleeping late!
The coffee is of course close to prefection, so are the biscuits and cake.
Also, the breakfast in the roof top is magical ( and again, food and drinks are delicious).
Its also a convenient adress, as you are near good restaurants ( they don't serve diner), near the market and near the shops. Barclays bank is across the main street, 10 minutes walk.

To conclude, a perfect stay for BoBo ( bourgeois-bohemes), 30 something, thriftshop lovers.
This place has charisma!

Great location. Coffee shop on the ground floor. Our room was spacious and beautiful. Air conditioned. Great roof terrace for breakfast. Lots of character. Friendly staff. I would definitely stay there again.

We stayd two nights in this unique "petite hotel" in the middle of Stone Town. Room was good and clean considering local standards. Bathroom at the corridor was not so nice experience, but for two nights it was ok... Think they also have rooms with own bathroom. There was a nice cafe downstairs with good coffee and cakes. They roasted their own coffee there, so it was certainly fresh. The location of this hotel was in the middle of narrow streets of Stone Town. We thought it would be better to stay at the hotel, when it become dark... There was a nice patio upstairs where you could relax and see the town.

Our stay here was one of the highlights of being in Zanzibar. It has an old world feel in the rooms and the building with a beautiful roof-top terrace for breakfast with great views of of Stone Town. The rooms were very comfortable and the breakfasts were delicious and included homemade jams. We stayed in the Espresso room and the Macchiatto room. Of course, the coffee was incredible. The staff - both in the hotel and the coffee shop part - were astoundingly sweet, especially after they found out we were honeymooners. They even had a delicious welcome cake for us when we arrived. They also, unrequested, knocked of 10% on our bill because we had to move rooms due to our late reservation. The Coffee House is a great central place to walk through the maze of streets in the old town. Everything was perfect - the only reason I have to knock off one star is because they burned a hole in one of my shirts they were laundering. I discovered it literally moments before we were leaving, and they couldn't do anything about it that late. It's probably not going to affect anyone else traveling there - but perhaps don't have them do your laundry. But if you're spending time in Stone Town, this is a great place to stay, for the building, the rooms, the food, and the staff.

Room Tip: "Espresso" room is great, but the bathroom (private) is outside the room. "Macchiatto...

Hard to find in the labyrinth of Stone Town (well for us anyway!), but when you find it you walk into the nicest baristas and staff in ST. The staff are super friendly, always with a smile on their face - they clearly enjoy where they work and what the do. Coffee is quality - I love the coconut and lime Lassi (so refreshing) and the food is top notch as well. Even when it overflows the staff dont get flustered, they have this down like clockwork - big up to the management and staff.

The coffee house is a wonderful old building in the winding lanes that form the heart of the old town. The staff were welcoming and thoughtful. Our room was large, classy, comfortable and cooled off at night. The breakfast on the roof was outstanding - great service, food and view. Call to prayer at 5 a.m. was the perfect start to the day in this most interesting cultural mecca. Along with a highly recommended stay at the coffee house, I recommend a personal guided tour of the old town which includes the market, the museum and the former slave market. Female tourists may be more comfortable with conservative clothing and a headscarf when exploring this city.
