“Perfect choice”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2012

Stayed two weeks at this well run small hotel, ideal for the independent traveller; a much better choice than the larger hotels favoured by package holidays. Rooms were nicely decorated and the whole place was kept scrupulously clean by the well trained, pleasant and helpful staff. If you want single occupancy this is available at reasonable rates. The terrace has a sea and rooftop view that rivals nearby expensive hotels and is a delightful spot both to start the day with an excellent breakfast and to relax later. The hotel is in the heart of the old town, where people live and work, so expect some of the hubbub of the streets and courtyards to drift up to your window; it's part of the atmosphere.Lisette and Lisenka are very welcoming and unfailingly helpful with any information and advice you might need. Look no further - this is the place to stay in Stone Town.

“Nice hotel in Stone Town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2012

After a safari in Ruaha, we spent 2 nights at Clove Hotel in Zanzibar. The place is nicely situated, with a view on the ocean from the rooftop terrace where one can relax in the breeze. There is some noise from the back road, but nothing to prevent you from sleeping. The staff is friendly and helpfull. The beds are confortable, the rooms are equipped with a fan and a mosquito net. I would recommend this place.

“Charming, well located guest house.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2012

This lovely place in Stone Town was good value - we were surprised at how expensive accomodation was in the city. However for $65 a night including breakfast the Clove Hotel seemed to be the best value. For the same price there were places that were either in unsafe or distant locations, or that looked rundown.

The hotel is run by two lovely Dutch women who are happy to recommend places to visit or eat, and to organise drivers for the airport. The hotel has a very relaxed, friendly feel to it and the staff really make you feel at home. There is also a great roof terrace with views of the Palace of Wonders, the seat and across to the Hindu temple. Breakfast is up here which was a mix of fruit, bread, eggs, juice and coffee/tea. There are cold drinks and snacks available if you want to hang out up here during the day or evening too.

We found the best thing about this hotel was the location, which puts you right in the middle of everything. The port, palaces, Forodhani Gardens, beaches and Suicide Alley are all no more than 10 minutes walk.

I'd definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: It might be worth asking for a room at the front, as it looked like these had balconies. Ours was at...

“Great location, very friendly staff & beautiful ocean view”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2012

We're just back from our first visit to Tanzania, 4 days of which we spent on Zanzibar. Clove House was recommended to us by a colleague and for the 2 nights we spent there it was perfect. Super central location for all sight-seeing visits (just next to the House of Wonders) and just near the harbour for island visit to the tortoises. We especially appreciated the friendliness of Lisette who couldn't be more helpful in organising our Spice Tour & our boat trip to the Tortoise Island and taxi to airport. We loved also the Monsoon restaurant, very close, where we could eat superbe Swahili food in lovely surroundings. Only minor thing was the lack of air in the room - very hot at night ;-) The restaurant on the rooftop is lovely with beautiful views over the ocean - a moment of calm at the end of the day in a very busy little town! Thankyou for your welcome!

Room Tip: We were a family of four and we had one of the family rooms at $115/night which is 2 rooms joined t...

“good value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2012

We stayed for several days at the Clove Hotel. It is nicely situated and has all the necessary. Very helpful and friendly staff. It is not a Hilton, but price quality is one of the best in Stone Town as far as I can see. I would go there again.
