“A magical fantasy in town town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 21, 2012

What an immersion into the Zanzibar fantasy, the Jafferji House is an amazing creation where it is evident that somebody designed this small boutique hotel with passion and a great deal of feeling for Zanzibar. As soon as you walk in, the quality is evident, but the style, the magic is beautiful. If you want a few nights in pampered luxury as well as being lost in the historical charm of Zanzibar, then I would really recommend a few nights here while you are in Stone Town. This one place that has got it really right, the magic of stone town surrounds you here, and engages you one on one.

Room Tip: I was at the top, I think because they are all different and have a different magic and charm, you w...

The concept and execution put us all in awe! Outstanding experience and it is very difficult to put in words. The entire staff truly is a wonderful lot, always smiling and well trained. They enhanced our experience! A wonderful, pleasant stay.

If you are looking for a cozy, charming spot with excellent food and a Scheherazade atmosphere in the heart of the Stone Town, this 'house' is what you want. With the magic of a place which was lived and loved for many decades, this home, even after the attentive restoration, has maintained the bizarre oriental architecture on the African coast, with staircases and windows and doors which open more doors and corners that hide even more intriguing woodwork. The colors are warm, the woods polished, the rooms creative, the food is exotic, but the spices are subtle and gentle, the rooftop SPA a picture out of a coffee table book...hmmm...what else...ah yes: just longing to go back for more!!

The restoration of this hotel is excellent, this is a truly beautiful boutique hotel of peace and tranquility set within the bustling streets of Stone town. Each room is designed differently but each as creative and lovely as the next, every detail even down to the dustbin compliments the room. We stayed in the Kamasutra Suite (breathtaking- two floored room with bath overlooking the ocean) and Adnan Suite. The staff are helpful, the location is great, the food we tasted (dinner and breakfast) was yummy, so in conclusion definitely the place to stay in Stone Town Zanzibar.

Room Tip: Some rooms have open bathrooms- so if not comfortable with this (we weren't) then request a clos...

I visited this new hotel during the annual music festival - Saute Za Busara - in February 2012. It is seriously tranquil place set in a bustling souk, and the coolest place to enter through a stunning door.......and a stunning interior. What a superb restoration. Apparently this is the childhood home of the owner who has obviously lavished serious money on turning this house into the MOST beautiful hotel. The bedroom suites are all individually named after explorers and any interiors magazine would have a field day on the furnishings and decor. Truly Zanzibarian and a credit to the owner. The smart brass plate immediately next to it: The Mistress of Spices Cafe - I assum belongs to Jafferji House as well. So.... this is a very cool hotel, with a spa on the roof withknockout views, and a lovely relaxing coffee house attached. ("Cafe" is not the right word). Its a lounging place. There are photographs on the walls eevrywhere taken by the owner who, when I googled, it seems is a famous photographer. His hotel befits him. His photos are superb. If you are in Stone Town, seek out this place: just to wander in there is a delight and take coffee (excellent) in the Mistress of Spices Cafe.

Room Tip: The one near the top with the copper bath and open to sea breezes.

This family run hotel is steeped in rich history and tradition. The building has been in their family for generations, but they've updated and restored every room with the latest amenities. The intricate woodworking is jaw dropping. Each suite is unique with Swahili, middle-eastern, and Pakistani influence. From the top floors you can see dhows sailing in the Indian Ocean, the Old Fort, and all of Stone Town. Some rooms even have private outside hot tubs- the height of luxury. I was lucky enough to get a tour before the hotel opened this summer, and I can't wait to go back. The owner/manager is passionate about customer service and providing an experience for his guests. You can see this reflected in the highest standards maintained throughout the hotel. It's just beautiful. There is nothing else like Jafferji House on the whole island.
