“Amazing designer aesthetic!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2013

We stayed in Stone Town for 2 nights between a Serengeti safari and a beach getaway in Matemwe. The Mashariki hotel was one of the highlights of our trip... It was simply amazing. The level of detail that the owners went to in creating this masterpiece simply has to be seen to be believed. The tallest ceilings you will ever have in a hotel bedroom. Seems to be a little slice of Marrakech in Stone Town. VERY stylish. Amazing views from the rooftop (and from our bedroom). Lovely (did I say stylish?!) Italian owners. Walking distance to everything. That being said... It is right next to a school and a mosque (although most hotels are in Stone Town!) and as a result is a little noisy. That aside, this is a must stay if you are ever in Zanzibar.

We recently spent 5 nights at the Masairiki, 4 nights before setting out for a Safari in northern Tanzania and the last night following our return to Stonetown, Zanzibar. What stands out most about the Mashariki, beyond the beauty of this hotel and its physical setting, is the graciousness and class of its staff and management. A perfect 10!

We were incredibly happy with our weekend stay at Mashariki Palace.

The hotel is beautiful, with soaring ceilings and a cool, calm feel in the lobby. We were lucky to be upgraded to the top floor room with ocean and town views, and a little balcony to enjoy the breeze. The amenities (toilet, shower etc) were brand new and all the interior design was stunning. I kept finding new nooks and crannies perfect for a lazy afternoon with a book, and it was great to see the renovation photos.

Restaurant was lovely, again with amazing views and the breakfast was great. Unfortunately we didn't manage a dinner at the restaurant, but I'll def try for a meal next time.

But most of all the staff were great. Welcoming, helpful etc. They arranged airport transfer and towels for our trip with Safari Blue, as well as a guide to take us for dinner at Emerson Spice. The also organised a guide for a walking tour around Stone Town. We were celebrating my partner's birthday and the staff surprised us with a personalised cake, and bottle of bubbles (which is why we missed dinner at the hotel!) when we got back from a day out.. as well as a few small gifts and a birthday card. Way above and beyond the call of duty!

Thank you to the staff and host.. we will be recommending the Mashariki Palace to all our friends!

stayed for two nights hotel and room fabulous. The whole feeling is very Arabian nights with balcony overlooking lush courtyard. All Staff very attentive. We ate in the hotel restaurant on the roof top terrace and the food was "to die for", the manager brought the chef out to meet us a very nice touch. The hotel location was convenient and staff very happy to arrange trips and provide recommendations for places to visit. Overall this was a fabulous experience and would not hesitate to recommend to others.
Should have an excellent +++ rating.

Excellent spot. Beautifully redesigned to feel like a modern palace but all the details are perfect. View over the water from the terrace is fantastic. The service was the best we had in Tanzania with everyone going out of their way to make our experience special despite us having only a few ours there. They arrange an early morning tour of stone town for us and the guide was excellent. They packed up a breakfast for us because we had to run to the ferry. It was excellent.

Room Tip: The upgraded room that we had was very nice and spacious.

We wanted to treat our selves to a little luxury for the last two days of our honeymoon in Zanzibar and that is exactly what we got! We were upgraded as we arrived to a beautiful room with it's own balcony with amazing town and sea views. (It pays to travel in low season) The dinning room boasts a breath taking view of the sea/town, a perfect setting. The architecture is something we have never seen before -very spacious and calming after hot days in Stone Town. Very convenient location - close to the coast and town centre - we explored everything by foot and managed to find our way back to the hotel easily. Staff and management were very friendly and breakfast/dinner was great. Thank you Mashakiri for making our honeymoon truly unforgettable!
