We stayed in Stone Town for 2 nights between a Serengeti safari and a beach getaway in Matemwe. The Mashariki hotel was one of the highlights of our trip... It was simply amazing. The level of detail that the owners went to in creating this masterpiece simply has to be seen to be believed. The tallest ceilings you will ever have in a hotel bedroom. Seems to be a little slice of Marrakech in Stone Town. VERY stylish. Amazing views from the rooftop (and from our bedroom). Lovely (did I say stylish?!) Italian owners. Walking distance to everything. That being said... It is right next to a school and a mosque (although most hotels are in Stone Town!) and as a result is a little noisy. That aside, this is a must stay if you are ever in Zanzibar.
