“Needs restoration”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2012

Great sight and the oldest Portuguese sight in Stone Town. It could do with a lot of restoration to bring it back to its former glory. Meanwhile, artists and festival groups have ade good use of the space which is good. Toilets are revolting though!

“Interesting but lacks amazement”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2012

Quite a dull visit, not much to offer besides a weak history. Various markets are scattered within but mainly just needs a good mow.

“Adds to the charm of Stonetown.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2012

High walls and good sea views for those who want to brave the ramparts. Many locals were visiting while we were there and there was a pleasant atmosphere. A group of volunteer Aids' workers were working away under the shade of a tree and we also met a group of trainee teachers who were a pleasure to talk to. Some souvenir shops. The amphitheatre is well designed - this place takes a new dimension in February of each year when the Sauti za busara music festival takes place.

“Old Fort”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2012

Very interesting, very historic, had a tour. I enjoyed this much more than the House of Wonders! It was one of the few really old historic places we visited in all of Tanzania.

“Not worth !”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2012

There is nothing to see inside the fort. It's dirty and except for the old theatre, just shops and pesty sellers welcome you! There is no entrance fee,but 15 minutes is more than enough for this place. BUT IT CAN BE SKIPPED TOO!
