“Simple and nice!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2012

We stayed here for two nights in August. The property was simple nice, and reasonably priced. We had a family room, which had a large queen or king bed and a twin in a separate nook. The room had AC, which was great (it did not get hot, but it did get humid), mosquito nets, a nice bathroom, a safe, and surprisingly, a flat screen TV! The neighborhood felt safe and was convenient to lots of attractions. It is right across the street from a co-operative that sells handmade goods and a more touristy shop that had pretty good deals on souvenirs. And, of course, our room had a fantastic door.

Judy (the owner) put a lot of info in the room about potential tours and excursions. Since it was Ramadan, she also gave us a list of restaurants that would be open during the day. We tried to go to the place she recommended for a spice tour, but it seemed a little sketchy (it was just some guy outside a clothing store who wanted to take us in his car for $25 pp...maybe we went to the wrong place??). We ended up walking over to Mr. Mitu's and booking something ourselves for much less ($12 for a half day (no beach) including lunch). They did arrange a taxi to take us to the airport at 6am, which was really nice.

The only thing that bothered me was that we did not get a good map of the surrounding area. We clearly got a photocopied version of a color map that was barely helpful. If you really need something, the shops around the cafe sell maps for $6 or so.

Thank you for your warm response to staying with us - it was our pleasure to host you and we enjoyed chatting with you. Inside that clothing shop I directed you to is a booking desk for the Mitu's Spice Tour for $12, not outside. It's so typical of funny old Zanzibar that you would be intercepted by a dodgy tout outside. I've learned from this that we need to start booking the Mitu's tours on behalf of our guests! Warm Regards, Masoud + judi.

We stayed here for five nights in August. On the plus side, the place is very centrally located; the staff are welcoming and pleasant (although the manager, Selma, could afford to smile more); the food is delicious; and the place is generally clean. On the minus side, it needs some new furniture (at least in the room that was given to us); it can get noisy at times; and the cooking smell can be annoying, especially at night. So, on the whole, it is a good place to stay for a few nights, but a few minor changes will make it even better.

Stayed in a balcony room for one night. It was clean and a reasonable price. Breakfast was included and was the best meal we had during our whole time in ZNZ. Anna was very helpful and took us up to our room. Met Judy and Mahmood? and they were great also.

Room Tip: Balcony room so you can connect to wifi

We stayed one night at Stone Town Cafe during August 2012. The hotel was comfortable and the staff were very helpful and friendly. The hotel has a great location and is very reasonably priced. The kitchen was open in the day during Ramadan to accommodate the foreign visitors. The receptionist booked our spice tour and taxi transfers at reasonable rates. The only downside is that there are no credit card facilities at the hotel. Highly recommended however!

Stayed here for one night, and was good for the night. Big rooms, TV, good bathroom. Lack of facilities to keep yourself entertained, have to rely on stone town itself. We were hassled alot in stone town to try and get into people's taxi's. We didn't recognise the hotel at first as it is small and blends in well with the surrounding shops and hotels.

We had a room with a double bed, very comfortable and had a good mosquito net around it. The sheets had stains on them, but we used the spare sheet from the single bed.
Great location as close to the seafront and amongst the shops, but bad because you couldn't distinguish between the hotel and other shops. Great bathroom, really big! Safe in the room too.
Fussy eaters had a small choice at breakfast, but this was included in our room fee so can't really complain.
Friendly staff who were really willing to help!

I stayed for 4 days here with my family. This hotel is ideally located with easy access to most stops around stonetown.Reasonabley priced rooms. The rooms are clean and tidy. There is a fridge and TV. The soap is locally made of Clove, Lemongrass etc.Beds have moquito nets and are comfortable. We got a lot of assistance for the staff whenever we needed to go around sightseeing. JAMIL - their Driver was extremely knowledgeable about Zanzibar and very helpful. I would recommend anyone staying here and wants to move around the island to hire him.
Judi, Masoud, Emma and staff have made us feel at home with their homely touch.
The Breakfast is excellent and the food too is tasty. I would surely stay here the next time I visit Zanzibar. I would recommend this Hotel to Tripadvisor members. I was born here and return after a long time.

Stone Town cafe B&B was a delight to stay at. Perfect spot in Stone Town to take a break and refresh if travelling overland as we were. The rooms were large, bed was comfortable, shower was hot and the room was extremely clean and well furnished. Breakfast was amazing (and large) and you could choose from anything on the menu up to a certain cost.If you take this into account when comparing against other B&B's that may be cheaper but have a basic breakfast it was good value for money at $80per night for the room. The service was also excellent and communication prior was quick and professional. And to top it off on our return stay we were upgraded to the room with the balcony where you can actually access the wifi from the cafe downstairs, which was a bonus. Definitely a great place to stay in Stone Town.

Room Tip: Balcony room is a nice choice if you are actually going to spend time in the room and would like to...
