“A Perfect Stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 31, 2014 via mobile

My first stay at Kisiwa House and found this hotel worth the stay. Everything was perfect. The location, the atmosphere, the staff, the character, the cleanliness and the great restaurant ! It is all you need for a perfect stay in stone town.

Absolutely nothing nothing negative to say. An awesome hotel. Authentic. Understated classic elegance. Great rooms. Good food. Amazing staff! We stayed on arrival for 2 nights and it was such a good experience, we returned for a further 3 nights at the end of our holiday! :)

the room we had was just wonderful, exactly what we were hoping for in Zanzibar.

Location is very good as well and the rooftop breakfast and dinner were very nice.

Staff were friendly and helpful as well.

All in all a good choice.

Overall, if you're looking for a solid place to use as a base to explore Stone Town and you're aiming to dine out, this is a relatively inexpensive option.
It's a neat little hotel in a restored building right in the centre of Stone Town and one minute from the waterfront. It's only 50m from one of the main routes from the airport, so it's easy to access when you arrive - you'll be thankful for that, as reaching some hotels involves trekking down the alleys.
Rooms are very spacious and airy. The one we stayed in had a large bathroom with a huge stand-alone bath as well as walk-in shower.
We didn't try the restaurant or bar in the evening as there are many better places for sundowners and food. However, the breakfast was entirely reasonable.
Staff were friendly and helpful.
The only downside was noise from people going up and down the many flights of stairs.

Kisiwa House is a small gem of a hotel in the heart of Stonetown. It is located in a beautifully restored historic mansion with high ceilings and elegant furniture. The service is impeccable, from the front desk staff to the waiters in the rooftop restaurant. The rooms are very comfortable, with all the amenities expected in a upmarket hotel. I especially appreciated returning in the evening to a room that had been prepared for bed: air-conditioning on, drapes drawn, mosquito net and bed linens turned down and fresh baked cookies for a late night snack. The included breakfast is served on the roof with a great view of the harbor, and is plentiful and satisfying. I will definitely stay at Kisiwa House again on my next trip to Zanzibar.

My wife and I spent five days in Stone Town, all of them at the Kisiwa House. The staff is attentive, quick and non-intrusive. The roof-top bar/restaurant is relaxing and has a good view of the sea. The interior of the hotel is tastefully put together and the rooms are comfortable, quiet and well designed. It's location is central, with everything only steps away and being off the main roads the rooms don't pick up the noise of traffic, etc. Will return again to Kisiwa. Cheers.
