“A restful, attractive and reasonably priced B & B”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2013

Five of us found Kiponda a welcoming spot to relax in after sightseeing in Zanzibar. They have running water showers - a plus not often found. The rooms are very clean and attractive, the staff extremely helpful, and a top floor that used to be a restaurant with big open and attractively furnished space for breakfast and/or relaxing in after a busy day sightseeing. I welcomed the breakfast. In Tanzania I am avoiding fresh fruit and vegetables which limits my diet. Corn flakes and good other cereals with delicious yogurt were offered, eggs, toast, and much more.

Room Tip: Avoid room 12 which is over the front door of the B & B. It can be noisy. Room 19 is very quie...

I stayed at this place for couple of night in different rooms, as i was traveling all around zanzibar for two weeks and i had to have a like a stopover in stone town.
all the rooms were so clean and good, prices are fair. and i like the room 14.
I even stayed in room 2 which was the lowest range and the cheapest and it was ok !!

Room Tip: choose room 14

Clean hotel in a pleasant Arabic-style building, with a beautiful breakfast-area. The breakfast itself was okay, except for the fresh juices (vb. avocado), which were excellent. To have a good breakfast, you need to be an early bird :) Other positive aspects: large rooms, peaceful, good and clean bathroom facilities, and free wifi.

Main drawback: after having spend the evening somewhere else, it's not that easy to find the hotel (since there is little light in the alleys), and not very safe. One evening, we paid someone from a nearby restaurant to escort us, the other evenings we just kept a steady pace. Taking a headlight with you would definitely help :)

We stayed at Kiponda for 4 nights in June. We had 2 rooms on the top floor that were very basic but clean, bright and comfortable.
The staff were very helpful and most were friendly. We needed to find a pharmacy and a staff member walked us to one which was really appreciated. They organised a walking tour that was worth doing. The breakfast was really good with plenty of choice.

The Hotel Kiponda looks like nothing from the outside - a tiny sign over a very large door leads to a dark entryway and a small office. When you move inside, however, everything changes. It is bright and welcoming, the staff are very eager to please, and the beds are both gorgeous and comfortable. The breakfast on the rooftop is terrific, with cereal, homemade yogurt, exotic juices, eggs, toast, gallons of coffee and tea. It made a great start to the day. Include free wireless and cheap laundry (500 shillings a piece - about 33 cents) and it was a great inexpensive place to stay.
About finding it: the street is too small for cars, so get someone to walk you there the first time. Stone town is a maze and I don't have a very good sense of direction, so got lost several times until I developed the habit of going to the Old Fort and taking the back alley shortcut - that got me there in 5 minutes every time.

Only stayed one night here but really liked it. Had a fab room on first floor, very clean and nicely decorated. Reception staff very friendly and helpful organising us transport to the beaches the next day. Good breakfast with real coffee on the terrace. Staff at breakfast werent particularly friendly or helpful but not a big deal. Would definitely go back here, well recommended!

We stayed two nights in a rather small room in the second floor. It was a bit dark but in the end you stay there only to sleep. Nice decor and interior. for $50 per night it offers great value.

Small down point the mattress could have been better.

Area: ideal Safe environment. 5 min to the night market.

Breakfast is as already in a couple of reviews mentioned here better than average, we loved the omelet.
