“Live taarab music, but overpriced food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2012

We went for dinner to enjoy the live taarab music. The music and the setting was nice, but the musicians came up to three times to collect money, and they were very pushy, which I found unfortunate considering the fact that the food was good but overpriced and the fact that the restaurant uses the "free" live music to get customers. The staff was not very friendly, and in the end we had to go and look for our bill and our change ourselves.

“Happy Hour”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2012

We decided to visit Monsoon for the simple reason that it looked clean and it has happy hours. The restaurant is on the 3rd floor, elevator is available. We started just wanting to order some beers but decided on some food. Because it was not a normal food time, we were amazed how good their dishes were. We have some mutton and cucumber salad. Quite delicious.

“Good Food, Slow Food Preparation”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2012

We ventured here for lunch and had King fish and Swahili Fajita and they were both good. The food did unfortunately did come out after about 30 minutes. The banana fritter was also good and hot. The prices were ok to high. I would go back again. FYI the yougurt smoothie is more yogurt than smoothie as it was not that cold. Make sure to sit away from the street or you will get hassled by every person walking by to give you a taxi ride or tour.

“Great atmosphere!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 13, 2012

Very nice restaurant near the water.......you sit on pillows on the floor so it's nice and cozy after touring all day. They had rose water in a tall slim spouted container.....it was so refreshing to splash some on. Great Serengeti & Castle beer. Food was very good....I highly recommend!

“Go for the live taarab music and the atmosphere”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 11, 2012

We booked in advance on a night when we knew live Taarab music would be played. We made sure to make the reservation at the right time so as not to miss the music. The service was not the greatest but the food made up for it - it was spectacular. It was also cheaper than what they ask for down the road at the Jamhuri Garden Park stalls! We were seated inside on the carpeted floor with cushions. The music was amazing and the atmosphere was the closest we'd gotten to what we believed would be the dining chambers of the Zanzibari Sultan. Go for the music, it is authentic and unlike anything you've heard before - actually no, it's like many things you've heard before rolled into one awesome-sounding ensemble!
