“Zanzibar's Best!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 29, 2013

Great restaurant. Good value and great food. We were working in Zanzibar for 4 weeks and went to Silk Route 4 or 5 times. Food, ambience, view - all superb. My daughter doesn't like Indian food but she loved this place! My son (the donkey) dropped 10,000 TSH off the the balcony onto the street below. There was a mad scramble for it and 5 mins later the Massai doorman from downstairs presented my son with his money back! Staff are great (it may be overstaffed) but that made for a great dining experience. Best Indian we have had in a while.

“Very good Indian Restaurant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

We had a very good meal at this restaurant. The table was on the roof top & as we were on the outside, we had a good view of the passing traffic below. The food was good & the service was quick. The restaurant filled up quickly, but as we has called earlier to book, we were able to reserve a table with a good view. Recommended.

“excellent service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

We were met by very proffesional staff and the service is great. You are offered complimentary towel to wipe yourself as you enter from from hot sun followed by some salad. The view is great from the open air restaurant and comfortable seating available. Great decor with a mix of Zanzibar and India giving it a unique flavour.

I was not too impressed with the chicken wing starter, a bit bland and tasteless. The paneer dish had too many onions. Perhaps we ordered the wrong dishes. The chapatis and rice were good though.

“VERY DISAPPOINTING EXPERIENCE!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2013

This is my second time in Zanzibar in last 7 months and this time we decided to visit Silk Route Restaurant. The ambiance was good but the rest was nothing but a nightmare.
The owner of the restaurant "Yasmin" was VERY ANNOYING. She wouldn’t let us look at the menu because she stood by our table and all she did was brag about how much money she has invested in this hotel...anyway, the waitress came twice to take our orders but both the times we had to send her away as we had not even had a chance to look at our menu due to this Yasmin lady chatting and chatting and chatting. We finally said to her; please let us order our food, which by now was quiet late. The food we ordered was Chicken & Fish Tindaloo...both tasted more like butter chicken....REALLY DISAPPOINTING.
The other turn off was a young man of Indian/Asian origin who is a manager there is very very rude. He had no sense of interpersonal skills be it with customers or staff. When this manager realized we were upset with his behavior because the way he behaved with one of the waitress, he asked Yasmin the owner to come by to speak to us but she was even worse than him. I mark her 10 out 10 when it comes to rudeness. I personally would NEVER EVER return back!
